just watched roadwild from 98 and it wasn't very good.

meng vs barbariian was kind of cool.

raven vs saturn vs kanyon was awesome though with raven being such a slimy bastard trying to pick spots and what not. lots of chaos and some innovative stuff for it's time.

rey vs psicosis was also very good. i liked the way psicosis worked rey in this match breaking him down.

juvi vs jericho with malenko as guest ref was good. jericho and juvi always seemed to have good chemistry.

the rest of the shit like bryan adams vs mongo, stevie ray vs chavo, the NWO battle royal, and even public enemy vs the dancing fools with tokyo magnum pretty much sucked donkey nuts. seriously how do you have a match with disco inferno, alex wright and tokyo magnum that isn't entertaining??
Mr. Backlund continued wrestling under the new gimmick of an out of touch, yet highly dangerous, maniac out to teach the new generation a lesson.[3] He often appeared in business suits, had a hyperactive personality, and used (or, often, misused) large words to sound important. He also demanded that he be addressed as "Mr. Backlund". He would only sign autographs for wrestling fans if they could recite the names of all of the US Presidents in chronological order

I would have to re-watch Road Wild 98 cause I bought all the WCW PPVs a few years ago and I thought their run from mid 95 to 98 was almost flawless except for a few exceptions(like Starrcade 97). That card seems pretty bad. Is that the one where the Battle Royale/gauntlet has Goldberg in it even though he is champ he can participate? It's like everybody was on auto-pilot on this one.

I think Road Wild was always pretty tricky. Because it's surrounded by bickers and these guys loved the heels. And forget pure wrestling. It's on open air, people want to take it easy and they can't concentrate. There was a great match between Malenko and Benoit I think at Road Wild 96(or was it 97?) and it was crapped on by the crowd. It was a great marathon but these guys wanted it to end. They booed when the guys would not get a three count! They cheered at the finish just because it was the end of the match, not because it was a great match!

Still, the biggest failing was reuniting the 2 factions for one last hurray. The whole nWo thing was both the rise and the fall of WCW.
Why would you want to end the nWo in 1997? It was a huge cash cow and it made the WCW into a juggernaut.

Despite attedance being good, WCW starting losing money in 98, so if nWo ended in 97, it might have given new talent a chance to get developed.
Just a theory, no way to prove it. Except the losing money in 98 thing, that;s fact.

that's the one. even after hogan dropped the title to goldberg he still main evented the next 2 PPV's in those shitty celebrity matches with karl malone, dennis rodman, and jay leno.

even though the crowds could be tough i always liked the feel of those big outdoor shows. this one just had a bad card though for the most part.

The only thing i don't like about the big outdoor venues is you often can't really hear the crowd.

Watching a Raw form september 02 right now.
HHH buried RVD by telling him over and over he isn't championship material (huh...familar) and then went in the back and told Flair how pathetic he is and can't be anywhere near HHH level etc etc.
I think every HHH heel promo in this was a shoot.

Crap when compared to the promo he gave Booker T. Took Book years and a King Booker gimmick to get his heat back

Yep. Book was even genuinely upset during that promo. Only HHH can get away with not only burying someone during a promo but make a racist remark towards the person he's burying

Losing money in 98? Maybe in certain elements. I don't remember the buyrates and attendances but as far as merchandising and ratings they were STRONGER in 1998. In merchs because of the Wolfpac. And in ratings because it takes a long while for the word-of-mouth to get going and while the nWo started in 96, they didn't get those big ratings right away. The heights of WCW during that time as far as ratings was 1998. Two years after the nWo. They lost to the WWF but it doesn't mean their ratings wasn't strong.

I'll tell you something, the real problem was to have the Sting vs Hogan match right away at Starrcade 97. This was a mistake because this was set-up that Sting HAD to win. And if he wins, the nWo has to go, it has to come off like a new beginning. But the nWo who started in the summer of 96 was still a very new concept that turned WCW into a juggernaut so you can't end it right away. On the other hand if Sting lose, he looks bad and it's a letdown for everybody. I think that's why WCW did what they did, they wanted to keep both the nWo and Sting strong. And it lead to the screwjob. They should have had Hogan face the new arrival Bret Hart instead. Let the Sting thing brewing for two more years. Meanwhile there's plenty of challengers and people to face for both the nWo and Sting. You can bring in young guys into the dance. And then when Sting face Hogan, it's over for the nWo. But for real this time.

    OMG, i just watched it.
In HHH defense, he was a heel and that was clearly planned to be racist to get him more heat.

Still Booker didn't get anykind of payback so one can understand how wrong that feud was

Even Kane got payback in his feud.

It seems the only guy Trips wanted to put over then was Shelton Benjamin and look how that turned out...
