    Updated Card for SHINE 9: First Qualifying Matches Announced for Championship Tournament
    Independent News, SHINE Wrestling 40 comments

    SHINE Wrestling will take its first steps towards crowning its inaugural champion this Friday at SHINE 9 with the first qualifying matches of the SHINE Championship Tournament.

    Sixteen wrestlers will compete in the qualifiers, four of which will be held at SHINE 9 and four at SHINE 10 on May 24th. The eight winners will then compete in a one-night tournament at SHINE 11 on July 12th (the company’s one-year anniversary show) where the winner will be crowned the first ever SHINE Champion.

    The first qualifier will see the veteran Jazz make her return to SHINE after an absence of several months to take on Valkyrie’s breakout star Ivelisse. Meanwhile, Valkyrie’s de facto leader Rain will face former 5-time TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love in a qualifying match that will see no love lost between the two women, following Love’s baptism of fire into SHINE at the hands of Valkyrie.

    Two former SHIMMER champions and international stars will also get a shot in the tournament. Saraya Knight looks to redeem herself after losing her SHIMMER title to Cheerleader Melissa earlier this month, and will face off in a qualifying match against Su Yung, who has the unenviable task of taking on arguably the angriest woman in wrestling a mere two weeks after her biggest defeat. And if that wasn’t enough, two of the biggest stars of the independent women’s wrestling scene will face off in qualifying action this Friday, as former SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles goes up against Jessicka Havok in a first-time-ever dream match.

    Add the already-announced main event Steel Cage match between Leva Bates and Kimberly, and SHINE 9 looks set to potentially be the biggest and best SHINE event yet!

    See below for the full card:

    * Arkham Asylum Steel Cage Match:
    Leva Bates vs. Kimberly

    * SHINE Championship Tournament – Qualifying Match #1:
    Jazz vs. Ivelisse (w/April Hunter)

    * Qualifying Match #2:
    Angelina Love vs. Rain (w/April Hunter)

    * Qualifying Match #3:
    Saraya Knight vs. Su Yung

    * Qualifying Match #4:
    Madison Eagles vs. Jessicka Havok

    Also appearing:
    Mercedes Martinez, Evie, Nikki Roxx, Mia Yim, Santana, SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Kellie Skater, Jessie McKay, Shazza McKenzie, Allysin Kay, Courtney Rush, Brittney Savage and Rhia O’Reilly

    SHINE 9 takes place this Friday, April 19th at the Orpheum in Ybor City, Florida. The show starts at 9PM ET (2AM GMT) and will be streamed live on Internet Pay-Per-View. Click here to order the show.

    Though it's certainly not the first time they have met in the ring, Rain vs Angelina Love is a feud we should have seen in TNA and something fun to look forward to. Havok vs Eagles figures to be a really well done match. Good move on Shine's part in having this tourney over time concluding with crowning a Champion. Kind of different seeing a (basically) PPV held on a Friday too.

    Is there any gimmick that Leva Bates hasn't done yet? I actually want to see her doing the impressions of Attitude Era wrestlers.

    One step closer in the WWE journey and it's official - I'm offered a WWE contract and it will be signed next week. I've passed critical levels and have now "only" medical tests and the visa organization left until I'm actually moving to Florida to start training. It feels SO UNREAAAAL!!!! & EXCITING!!!
    Divas @ WWE! it's ON! #wwe #wwediva
    ive liked her for sometime now

    Default Knockouts and ex-KO's Sky, Love, & Rosita land movie roles

    Some fairly recent news regarding a trio of familiar performers.

    - Velvet Sky and Angelina Love cast to do superhero movie(s)

    Real Fighting Ability Brings Authenticity To Sci-Fi Genre
    The Mission Park Quinology Movie Has Cast A Beautiful Duo In Leading Roles

    PRLog (Press Release) – Mar. 21, 2013 – BOSTON — In an age when CGI effects and stunt doubles substitute for live-action adventure, it’s exciting to know that the next superhero franchise is going back to basics. From pre-production to post production, creator Chip Perro wants every scene of the five-film Mission Park Quinology to be as authentic as possible. “Everyone knows that current comic, sci-fi, and action movies are loaded with CGI effects that make them more cartoon than live-action.” The Mission Park Quinology changes that with high-octane actors, with fighting skills, that make them runaway actions stars.

    Enter Lauren Williams and Jamie Szantyr, also known as Angelina Love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelina_Love) and Velvet Sky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_Sky), the Beautiful People duo on TNA Wresting. After the scripts are written, the most important part of the pre-production process is casting. Many actors can deliver strong emotion and dialog, but Perro wants more authentic action sequences that can only be realized with actors who are also trained athletes. “We want to make sure that not only can our actors act, but that they can fight,” explains Perro. Williams has been cast as the gorgeous blond temptress Tessa Faux, and Szantyr has been cast as her equally alluring best friend, Cherry Pie. Both actors will team-up in the second movie of the Mission Park Quinology, Faux & Orchard: Little Deaths (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1817145/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1). As Perro tells it, “These are real women who know what it takes to land a knockout punch.”

    From a fan’s perspective, casting is the start of the movie making process. Williams and Szantyr’s selection for this project is the first in a series of casting moves to launch real athletes in the roles of superheroes. As a life-long martial artist, Perro is sensitive to the flaws in action choreography. “Too many wires, and suddenly, you’re not watching a fight. It becomes a surreal stylized dance, and I don’t believe a moment of it.” For a series of films as hard-hitting as the Mission Park Quinology, Perro wants to make sure his cast is ready for action! The fans demand it!

    - Former TNA Knockout lands movie role

    Thea Trinidad, formerly known as Rosita in TNA Wrestling, has been cast as a character named Lawson in the upcoming horror film Army of the Damned, according to IMDB.com. The storyline of the movie reads: "The filming of a hit reality TV show goes horribly wrong when a group of small town cops respond to a call that brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, domestic disturbance."
