New Japan Pro Wrestling announced today that Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards had been involved in a traffic accident in America and as a result would be unable to compete at tomorrow’s Dontaku event.

As a result, as Richards and Rocky Romero were the tag team champions and scheduled to defend their IWGP Junior Tag Team Championships the company have had to vacate the titles.

There is no word on how this will affect the Ring of Honor Border Wars iPPV on May 12th as Richards is currently scheduled to defend his ROH World Championship against Kevin Steen.

    The current card is below:

    - Strongman, Captain New Japan and Tama Tonga vs. YOSHI-HASHI, Jado and Tomohiro Ishii.

    - Ryusuke Taguchi and KUSHIDA vs. TAKA Michinoku and Taichi.

    - Jushin Thunder Liger and Tiger Mask IV vs. Rocky Romero and Gedo.

    - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Prince Devitt (c) vs. Low Ki.

    - IWGP Tag Team Championship Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima (c) vs. Toru Yano and Takashi Iizuka.

    - Togi Makabe and Yuji Nagata vs. Minoru Suzuki and Yoshihiro Takayama.

    - Karl Anderson vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.

    - Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Masato Tanaka and Yujiro Takahashi.

    - IWGP Championship Match: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Hirooki Goto.

kind of weird to see akebono on that list, but no sweat. i'm going to suggest some NJPW(which i think is likely the best wrestling in the world over all), AJPW, and some comps.

for NJPW i'd say start with last years Best of the Super Jr tourney(cruiserweights) starting from 05/26/2011 and ending with NJPW 06/10/2011. i'm not sure if you want to get every show, if you don't i'd most strongly recommend picking up 05/26, 05/29, 06/07, & 06/10. while it's pretty much all about the jrs on these shows you will get a glimpse and feel of what heavies you like in the midcard.

for AJPW and your akebono fix i'll check out the tag run he and taiyo kea had with belts. i'll get back to you with the dates in a minute. it's mostly from late 2010-mid 2011 if you want to browse through it yourself. also look through the selection of comps, they have some good ones for benoit, eddy, tensai(giant bernard) & umaga.
Mr. Backlund continued wrestling under the new gimmick of an out of touch, yet highly dangerous, maniac out to teach the new generation a lesson.[3] He often appeared in business suits, had a hyperactive personality, and used (or, often, misused) large words to sound important. He also demanded that he be addressed as "Mr. Backlund". He would only sign autographs for wrestling fans if they could recite the names of all of the US Presidents in chronological order

    NJPW “NJPW 40TH ANNIVERSARY ~ WRESTLING DONTAKU 2012″, 5/3/12 (WPW/PPV)
    Fukuoka International Center
    6,500 Fans
    – Super No Vacancy Full House

    1. YOSHI-HASHI, Jado & Tomohiro Ishii beat Strong Man, Captain New Japan & Tama Tonga (7:12) when Ishii used a brainbuster on Tonga.
    2. TAKA Michinoku & Taichi beat Ryusuke Taguchi & KUSHIDA (8:16) when Taichi used a Taichi-style Gedo clutch on KUSHIDA.
    3. Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask beat Rocky Romero & Gedo (7:50) when Tiger used a crucifix hold on Gedo.
    4. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Low Ki beat Prince Devitt (c) (21:01) with the Ki Krusher ’99 to become the 63rd champion.
    5. IWGP Tag Team Title: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (c) (16:47) when Yano used the Oni Koroshi on Kojima to become the 59th champions.
    6. Special Tag Match: Minoru Suzuki & Yoshihiro Takayama beat Togi Makabe & Yuji Nagata (13:43) when Suzuki used a Gotch-style piledriver on Makabe.
    7. Special Singles Match: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Karl Anderson (12:15) with the Boma Ye.
    8. Special Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tetsuya Naito beat Masato Tanaka & Yujiro Takahashi (13:59) when Tanahashi used the High Fly Flow on Takahashi.
    9. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada (c) beat Hirooki Goto (24:55) with the Rainmaker (2nd defense).

    * Who can stop the Rainmaker!? New Japan Cup winner and IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Hirooki Goto, remains unable to win the greatest prize available, the IWGP Heavyweight Title, after another near miss at a packed Fukuoka International Center today. It was a match that could have gone either way but the vigor and momentum of Okada carried him over the line as he finished off Goto with the Rainmaker. Tanahashi appeared after the match and challenged Okada to a match which would be a rematch of their February class where Okada shocked everyone by winning the title. And it looks like this match could take place at the very same building as last time, Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, with “DOMINION 6.16″ looming as New Japan’s next big show.

    * Tanahashi had just teamed with Naito to defeat Tanaka & Yujiro before his post-main event appearance, pinning Yujiro after his High Fly Flow. There was said to be some issues between Tanahashi and Naito after the match which could be isolated or hint at some bigger problems.

    * Shinsuke Nakamura avenged his upset New Japan Cup loss to Karl Anderson, which was one of my personal favourite matches of 2012 (the NJC match). This was a slightly shorter match but was also said to be very exciting with Shinsuke’s Boma Ye making the difference.

    * The thorn in TenKoji’s side, CHAOS’ Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka, became a much bigger problem today. After beating TenKoji in a non-title match then Yano recently pinning Kojima in a singles match, the dastardly heels today went one step further by capturing the IWGP Tag Team Title from Tenzan & Kojima. After the Iron Fingers from Hell by Iizuka, Yano dropped Kojima with his Oni Koroshi for the huge win, very momentous for both men. This is Yano’s first title since he and Makabe held the IWGP Tag Title in 2008 while for Iizuka this is his first title since 1996(!) when he and Kazuo Yamazaki held the tag belts.

    * Prince Devitt, the absolute ace of New Japan’s junior division for two years now, said going into his match with the “One World Warrior” Low Ki that he may be the underdog given Ki’s track record across the world where he has wrestled in almost every major promotion. Devitt had beaten Ki last year in New York in an IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title defense but today marked Low Ki’s true return to New Japan as he ended Devitt’s half-year reign as champion in an exciting match. Ki spiked Devitt with the Ki Krusher ’99 and finally the Irishman seems to have found his first worthy challenger since Kota Ibushi went down with a long-term injury.
"That was the ebb. Pray I do not demonstrate my mastery over the flow."

a comp is a compilation or collection, in this case of a wrestlers best matches rather than a show.

i only caught the main event trios title match for CMLL today, champs rush, marco corleone, maximo vs terrible, rey bucanero, & somebody i didn't recognize. kind of looked like sangre azteca. good stuff, roosh and terrible need another singles match with some kind of stipulation, please just not a hair match because then we all lose.

    REVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!!!!!

    Zero1 09/07/2010
as always DVD was bought from ivp. i like to call this and last years the fire festival ADD editions. every match from the summer tourney is shown but clipped way down xcept for the final match which is shown in its entirety.

    Block A
    otani
    yutaka yoshie
    sekimoto
    the predator(terkay)
    sugawara

    Block B
    masato tanaka
    ryouji sai
    kohei sato
    joe e. legend
    hidaka

the matches i wish i could've seen uncut

otani vs sekimoto, how things have changed since their 1st meeting in the tourney back in 01.

tanaka vs hidaka, just an awesome match up. wild high kicks vs bullet elbows.

hidaka vs sato, loved the way they played hidaka's speed skill advantage in the striking against kohei's size and strength. because of sato's advantages he was OK landing 1 to 3 of hidaka's kicks while closing the distance to get a hold of him.

tanaka vs sai, these 2 have had some of the best matches in the history of the tourney against each other. anytime they face off in the tourney i want to see all of it.

sato vs sai, former partners and each others biggest competition of their generation in the promotion, throw sekimoto in there as well but he's kind of an outsider.

sato vs tanaka, just a great match up i haven't seen very often. sato & sai need to defeat tanaka & otani before they can ever become the true aces of the promotion.

sai vs hidaka, another great match up i haven't seen too often due to hidaka being a Jr heavy

sekimoto vs yoshie, some damn awesome feats of strength here with sekimoto and the massive yoshie.

now did they get carried away in the final NOAH style?? yes. was it toally justified and worth it?? absolutely. both guys had won the tourney 3 times, plus they're long time partners and friends so it was a battle of pride & spirit to see who's the true king of the burning heart tournament.

overall a damn good buy at $3.

The mystery guy was Tiger, who took over Texano's spot in TRT when he Texano jumped to AAA. You know, so they could keep the "TRT" name.

That main was a lot of fun. Marco must be working with better wrestlers, because I like him a lot better in CMLL than I did in LLUSA or even WWE. And I agree the true losers in a hair match would be the fans - maybe they could have stipulation where the loser has to be the winner's personal hair butler for a month.

The other matches weren't anything special. The tag team match was notable just because Electrico kept botching, and then would get slapped hard on the back by Demus or Pequeno Pierroth immediately after blowing a move. Astral was pretty good, though.

    Prince Devitt/Volador Jr. news...

A key move was a springboard dropkick to the back that Devitt had no idea was coming and could have hurt him, and there were others as well.
I’m thinking the belt shot that cut Devitt in the head might have one of the others. No one – not Devitt or the TV people – seemed to know that one was coming until Volador did it, and it’s not a bit CMLL usually does. The best parts of the Volador/Devitt feud was Volador being more aggressive and jerkish than usual, but that sort of thing should not extend to unexpectedly hurting the opposition. NJPW probably already had picked their guy for the Best of Super Juniors, but this would seem to hurt Volador’s chances of being used in NJPW (and in CMLL!) going forward.

That’s definitively not the only time he’s done that dropkick. Volador did the same one to back of Maya’s head back during the national trios feud, and it looked hellacious then too. You’re more likely to be called on doing these sort of things when you’re doing them to the special guest wrestler.
That's too bad - Volador's really talented, but sounds like maybe a bit insecure.

    Ok... very weird tangent.

There was a match in Japan (small company called Union Pro), where Joshi wrestlers Emi Sakura (replacing Mio Shirai, Triple Tails member, the older, skinnier one) and Cherry (Joshi Cherry, not WWE Cherry... still not great of a wrestler, but the storyline is the purpose of this tangent) faced off in a match with a big stipulation.

If Joshi Cherry won, Mio Shirai will have to show her face without makeup... now, that wouldn't be that bad, honestly...

If Emi won, Cherry would have to give out her real age... now that's a biggie, because her whole gimmick, for I think her 5-7 years of wrestling, was a woman who was "forever 18". Yeah, very annoying, but she kept with it....

Until Emi Sakura won... and she had to reveal her passport to the live audience, in a ceremony that looked like the end of a career (with a 10 bell salute)... and revealed her age....

    37!

Egads, woman! Just let it go. Even the whole crowd was shocked as heck, when they calculated her age on her passport (each bell from the salute reveal previously censored info). She was more than twice the age of her gimmick, but everyone though that she started wrestling at 18, and just kept on going like a delusional twenty-something.

It was like a practical joke taken so seriously that it became a (slightly) big moment, if only for the reveal.

There should always be space for the weird and hilarious in wrestling. That was one of them.
You just have to be cool about it...

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I knew she was WAY older than her gimmick!

    Wow, that's crazy.

And I really don't think Mio Shirai would look bad without make-up...

    REVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWW TIIIIIIIIIME!!!!!

    BJPW 05/05/2011
    1. Daikokubo Benkei & Takumi Tsukamoto vs Masato Inaba & Masashi Otani (9:48)
    2. Brahman Shu, Brahman Kei & Yuichi Taniguchi vs Shinobu, Ryuichi Kawakami & Kazuki Hashimoto (10:01)
    3. Barbed Wire Board +Bring Your Own Weapon Deathmatch: Masashi Takeda vs Kankuro Hoshino (12:31)
    4. Big Van Walter & DJ Hyde vs Shadow WX & Abdullah Kobayashi (14:48)
    5. BJW Tag Title - Cage-Ladder-Thorn Deathmatch: © Jun Kasai & Jaki Numazawa vs Yuko Miyamoto & Isami Kodaka (22:25)
    6. All Asia Tag Title: © Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi vs Yoshihito Sasaki & Shinya Ishikawa (20:59)
    7. BJW Deathmatch Heavyweight Title - Block & Fluorescent Object +Alpha Deathmatch: © Ryuji Ito vs Takashi Sasaki (23:04)

    1. Daikokubo Benkei & Takumi Tsukamoto vs Masato Inaba & Masashi Otani
not bad, but nothing much to see. nobody made an impression on me in this one.

    2. Brahman Shu, Brahman Kei & Yuichi Taniguchi vs Shinobu, Ryuichi Kawakami & Kazuki Hashimotogood. brahmans are always fun. shinobu is pretty cool. i would've liked to have seen more of hashimoto though. i think he's good but feel like i'm missing something with him.

    3. Barbed Wire Board +Bring Your Own Weapon Deathmatch: Masashi Takeda vs Kankuro Hoshino good. i like hoshino(missed the barbwire logo graphics singlet) and takeda is a good heel. doesn't start off so hot but gets better as it goes and is good by the end.

    4. Big Van Walter & DJ Hyde vs Shadow WX & Abdullah Kobayashi not feeling it. kobayashi is fun but i prefer him in deathmatches. walter has potential imo, DJ hyde otoh still sux.

    5. BJW Tag Title - Cage-Ladder-Thorn Deathmatch: © Jun Kasai & Jaki Numazawa vs Yuko Miyamoto & Isami Kodaka VERY good though the lack of thorns was disappointing. miyamoto & kodaka are a vet/up an comer team that is easy to cheer for. kasai & numazawa while not really heels play the role of THE team to beat very well.

    6. All Asia Tag Title: © Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi vs Yoshihito Sasaki & Shinya IshikawaAWESOME. sekimoto & okabayashi are a damned FORCE. yoshihito is very slept on imo, he's damn great and come a long way in his career(damn you zero1!!). ishikawa seems to be a talented youngster with a bright future. just good work by all guys involved.

    7. BJW Deathmatch Heavyweight Title - Block & Fluorescent Object +Alpha Deathmatch: © Ryuji Ito vs Takashi Sasaki good. i'm not a big fan of ito but sasaki is always enjoyable in these deathmatches. all the brutal spots and carnage you xpect from these types of things(damn those concrete block bumps). ito needs to be more careful as there were a couple of moment where somebody in the crowd could've got fukt up because of his carelessness.

overall a solid buy at $6 especially if you like a deathmatch here and there(i admit i'm a mark for light tubes)
