The exact same thing could have been done during an ACTUAL MATCH.
No reason whatsoever to have an 18 second squash after that much build up during freakin' mania.

Ironically, nobody at mania used a rear naked choke/sleeper hold.

I would have been fine on regular TV, or maybe even at another PPV. But NOT at mania, not for a world title, and not to open the show.

I think it did put a damper on the crowd. Even if you weren't a Bryan fan, you were left with the "What the hell?..." feeling.

NOLA.com reports that a man died after watching WrestleMania 28. The man was reportedly choked out by his 14 year old cousin and pronounced dead at 10:39pm local time.

    From NOLA.com:

"According to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, Arceneaux had gathered with friends at a home on Murray Hill Drive to watch the pay-per-view event "Wrestlemania 28" on television when he and a 14-year-old cousin began to wrestle on an inflated mattress on the floor. The juvenile, who is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds, placed his arm around the neck of Arceneaux, who was 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighed 220 pounds, in a move commonly known as a "rear naked choke hold" for 30 to 40 seconds.

Witnesses reported that Arceneaux said he would not give up or "tap out."

But at some point, someone noticed that Arceneaux was turning blue and told the youngster to release the hold. When he did, witnesses realized that Arceneaux had stopped breathing and dialed 911, shortly after 10 p.m.

Arceneaux's girlfriend tried to revive him with CPR. He was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Champagne said the investigation is continuing. No arrests have been made."
Guess there is a hourse in which they will no longer be watching wrestling.
I wonder if people will start chanting "ban wrestling" again. Like how it happened in an arab country some years ago, when a kid killed another supposedly because they were doing some wrestling moves that they watched on TV.

Given that they have a "don't try this at home" message on every show, there's no much else WWE can be expected to do. It's not like the old days when they did in fact glorify Mick Foley's backyard wrestling past.

That this apparently happened to a grown man is just bizarre.

The Bryan/Sheamus match makes sense, if you consider it as a hated villian getting his just reward.DBD reign has been about a guy who just wants to be champ, and not actually fight for his championship. He loses the championship, in a moment of complete arrogance. The win did not make Sheamus look unstoppable, and really didnt make DBD look weak. He got sucker punched.

Like many it took awhile to get the bad taste out of my mouth, because you wanted a decent match for both guys.Guys , who are going to be the future of your company.

The Divas match was better than it had any right to be.Best divas match, I have seen in awhile.

Kane and Orton made no sense, my only guess, is that Kane is going to go after Sheamus afterwards.

Big Show was way longer than I would have thought, I am glad that they showed Cody more respect than a comedy squash.

    The Mommas were trainwreck funny.

Match of the night, and its not even close was Taker and Hunter.

Punk and Jericho had the beginnings of a great fued. Technical match of the night.Truly the best in the world were perfoming at the top of their game. I was suprised, because I thought we were going to get a Christian/Orton title change.

Rock and Cena was just fun. Cena does what he has always done put over the hotter guy in his hometown. No one looked bad, and the crowd went home happy.I dont think we are going to see Heel Cena, but definitely we are going to get an angrier guy.

I hope that Jericho and Punk have a ladder match at Extreme Rules. Also, hopefully people at the WWE, were listening to the crowd, because Danielson is super over, and needs to stay at the forefront of whatever show he is on.Also, I will give the WWE props for not overbooking any of their matches.

I think its best to save the return of Brock and Batista for tv. People already paid for Mania, so you dont need to give them more.

Ric Flair isn't a grown up man. He's a shambling corpse powered by black magic and Triple H's need to have his idol worship HIM.

The Divas Match needed a kharma run in . They needed her to destroy everyone in the ring. When DB got his, my first reaction was "Weasel out of that A-Hole." So it did make sense.

What a lousy Mania. I should start calling it WrestleLamia. I am glad I didn't fork over my hard-earned cash for that crap. Taker-Triple H was better than I had expected and Triple H did the right thing for once (hell has frozen over). As for the rest I found it horrible. Punk-Jericho was disappointing and Rock-Cena was disappointing, although the Rock showed he is still the man. I don't know about you, but I was insulted by the Machine Gun Kelly and Flo Rida crap. The time spent on that shit could have been spent on another match or some skits. I still don't understand the hype about Captain Spalding Daniel Bryan, but being jobbed out in 18 seconds is a joke. Was it Vince's way of sticking it to the viewers? I don't know. What I do know is that wrestling hasn't been much fun for the past few years, so I am glad I am not spending too much time on it.

Well there is a sport more popular than wrestling now called MMA. Maybe they'll go after that this time.

So far for Extreme Rules, we have two announced matches.

Cena vs Lesnar (no match type or stipulation yet)
Sheamus vs Byran (2 out of 3 falls) [I have an idea that there might be a double turn in this match. Byran fights til the last fall, Sheamus cheats to win in the end, Byran sits dejected in the ring while the crowd does a YES! chant, AJ runs to the ring, they makeup ala Randy and Elizabeth at WrestleMania VII.]

Looks we'll have a Jericho vs Punk match.
Though not sure what kind of match. I think a cage is too much at this point of the feud. Maybe a no DQ match so Jericho can use alcohol bottles to further the drunk angle?

Plus I guess we'll get a Big Show vs Rhodes rematch.
Again no clear match type from the feud angle of embarrassing moments.

Also there will most likely be a Kane vs Orton fight. Probably a street fight or something.

That leaves a bunch of lower card gimmick matches which they can throw together in the next couple of weeks.

It sounds like there will be at least one cage match of some sort.
