Mr. Backlund continued wrestling under the new gimmick of an out of touch, yet highly dangerous, maniac out to teach the new generation a lesson.[3] He often appeared in business suits, had a hyperactive personality, and used (or, often, misused) large words to sound important. He also demanded that he be addressed as "Mr. Backlund". He would only sign autographs for wrestling fans if they could recite the names of all of the US Presidents in chronological order

Do you really think that Ted has that level of personality to pull that off?Creative would have to be creative, and give him a lot of backstory to pull that off.

That why I think Ted needs to go away for a little bit. He needs time to develop a persona without being on WWE TV, and hopefully the E wont interefere and let him keep that character.

MMA reporter Ariel Helwani interviewed UFC President Dana White this weekend and noted on Twitter that White revealed some tidbits on Kurt Angle. Angle apparently tried out for The Ultimate Fighter reality show but didn't make it because he failed a physical. White also told Helwani that he had no plans to book Angle vs. Kimbo Slice on UFC pay-per-view. Helwani wrote:

"Other big news out of the post-fight presser Dana scrum, was Dana saying Kurt Angle didn't make it on TUF because he failed his physical. He didn't not want to elaborate but he did add that he never wanted to book Kimbo vs. Angle on PPV. That video coming later."

I had a feeling the physical is what would stop Kurt from getting on TUF

If it were the Kurt Angle before nagging injuries and other issues that held him back then I could see him in TUF. Cant fault the guy for trying though

Indeed, it's just now I'm like ok Kurt we know you love mma now but dude your body isn't the same anymore. Try and become a referee for the sport or ask Dana if you can be a guest commentator every now and then or when Rogan is off filming Fear Factor

i agree with all this, and for some reason feel that i must add that cody was the same before he got the dashing gimmick.

this is true too, xcept koffi actually wins matches fairly often and has never been booked as the lackey or weak link/bitch boy. that helps to make a push not feel forced or undeserved.

when the hell has zach ryder ever went above the call of duty in the ring??
Doing those things are your only chance. If you don't, it's a guarantee you're toast. I wouldn't argue about Low-Ki, I'm a fan of his. But I also think he was being punished for winning NXT instead of Alex Riley. They didn't have any plans for Ki, and the writers probably resented having to deal with him.

And I think that MVP was soft-pedaled because of his close association with Chris Benoit (not to mention similar wrestling style). It still blows me away that MVP never got a world title in WWE. I was sure it going to happen eventually.

End conspiracy theories. I'm a gooooood Clayholio now.

That's what's been going on with him since they put him back on tv. On Smackdown, the match he had was him winning cleanly, yes, but for all but maybe 20 seconds of a 3 minute match, he just got beat on.

He's like reverse enhancement talent right now.
It's a stepping stone - Ryder isn't really taken seriously in the ring yet, so they're going to have to take him from fluke wins to more evenly matched wins over some time.

We'd have to go back to the days of jobbers to determine, but i think it's safe to say that in the current age it isn't easy to stand out while doing that.

On a somewhat connected note, i remeber an interview with mikey whipwreck, who was some part of Ryder's training (which...him as a trainer is odd, now that i think about it.)
Anyway, he watched Ryder have one of his first matches on WWE tv, back in ECW, and he called him after and said
"You didn't do anything in the match, you just got hit a lot, threw a couple punches, and then continued to get beat on."
    Ryder's response was
"That's what they told me to do."

So, he's use to doing it, and i think he does quite well at selling a beating.
It didn't really get him anywhere, but I used to really look forward to seeing Nunzio's matches, simply for his selling. His selling was better than most guys' offense.

This. I respect his passion for MMA but he's not the same guy he once was.

Kurt is an Olympic level athlete. Kurt is busted up from his broken neck and injuries from the ring. If Kurt went to UFC instead of WWE, he would have ruled that world based on his wrestling alone, depending on if he could take a punch.

i meant more currently. if he had done so about 6 or 7 years ago, he'd be a top guy in the sport but now, his body's too wrecked for MMA.

He might have been a top guy.
In MMA, having a skill in one area doesn't mean you win.
Fighting a guy who you know is going to try to get you on the ground actually gives your opponent an eye into your game and a good way to plan how to fight him actually.
And, while an olympic wrestleris dangerous, he isn't used to being punched in the face after he takes a guy down, or defending against it, or being kneed, elbowed, etc etc.
