    Default Ultimate Naming Conventions

So we all know that the Ultimate Line in Vol 1 of the UU was simply Ultimate <Title>. In Vol 2 the series' were called Ultimate Comics <Title>, however they were still just branded as Ultimate <Title> in the Trade Dressings. Now in Vol 3, the series' are both called Ultimate Comics <Title> and are referred to as such in the Trade Dressings.

I get why they are doing it this way (so they can use the same series title name without resorting to the idiotic thing that goes on in 616 where most titles are on their 6th or 7th volume with the exact same name. Boy is that confusing... You say you wanna read Punisher #8 and there are like 5 different issues with that exact same title and issue #)... anyway, I digress:

What would you call the brand instead of Ultimate Comics? Assume you can't just call it Ultimate <Title> like it was before.

What about something like The Ultimate <Title>? Example: The Ultimate Spider-Man or The Ultimate X-Men.

Good thought for a thread. For this volume i would have called it ultimate x-men 2.0 to not get comfused for the number of volumes they,ve done.

    ultimate spiderman 3.0
the ultimates 2.0 and so on

And whoever said you have to put ULTIMATE on it?! How about spider-man. 21st century?

    Or x-men: modern updated?

Meh, those names ain't great i know, but i like them!
Buy comics by Bendis, Millar and Hickman...but stay away from Loeb! (well, his current stuff anyway)

Pull list : The Amazing spider-man, Ult. comics spider-man, Avergers and Justice league

Ok I just saw a small flaw in my suggestion of "The"... What would they call the Ultimates? The Ultimate Ultimates? The Ultimate The Ultimates? They can't call it The Ultimates because that's what the very first one was called... The Avenging Ultimates? Nah, that sounds horrible. In fact no book should ever begin with The Avenging... It sounds silly.

How about "Ultra-Ultimate <>" ? Or... "Decidedly badassier, while leaving room for the return of a previous incarnation, OR an even AWESOMER Ultimate <>"?

    I'd prefer Marvel Ultimate: <title>

    Marvel Ultimate: The X-Men
    Marvel Ultimate: The Amazing Spider-Man

I personally would choose the opposite being Ultimate Marvel

I kinda like the sound of Ultimate Legends: Spider-Man and Ultimate Legends: The Ultimates.

The naming convention irks me SO MUCH.

There was nothing wrong with Ultimate Spider-Man, and there would've been nothing wrong with a new Ultimate Spider-Man #1. The 616 universe does it all the time.

Plus, everyone's just gonna call it Ultimate Spider-Man anyway.

The worst thing about it is Ultimate Comics: Ultimates.

Can we all just agree on a colloquial naming convention? Can we informally agree to just say Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates, leaving out all the "Ultimate Comics" crap?

    That's actually not too bad

When I speak I automatically call it Ultimate Spider-Man, but instinctively I always type the "Comics" in there if I am writing it...

I just call it Ultimate [Blank], and I always will. Ultimates will always just be Ultimates.

Also, in case you didn't notice, the indicia of Ultimates #1 was just that - "ULTIMATES No. 1." For the record, Ultimates #1 in 2002 said "THE ULTIMATES Vol. 1 No. 1." Ultimates 2 was "ULTIMATES 2 No. 1" and Ultimates 3 was "ULTIMATES 3 No. 1."

The way I see it, the "Ultimate Comics" is just a banner to link the books, kind of like Dark Reign, but with more unity. The books are still called Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-man, Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Hawkeye.

The volume problem already existed. There were already two issues of each Ultimate Spider-man 1-15, and there's about to be a third. I just see it as volumes 1, 2 and 3. Hickman's Ultimates would be Ultimates vol. 4, I suppose, even though it doesn't say that in the comic (then again, the current Avengers and New Avengers series don't have volume numbers either). I could also see them calling it volume 5, with New Ultimates counting as volume 4, since it was the Ultimates title at the time.
I like Ultimate Comics. - Read them with us!

I also buy: Captain America, Avengers, FF, New Avengers, X-Factor, among others

*uses juju magic to revive old thread from the grave*

I still hate the naming convention on the Ultimate titles, but that's been covered thirty times already.

    My question is this...

Is there supposed to be a colon after the word "Comics"?

    For example, is it

    ULTIMATE COMICS: SPIDER-MAN

    or

    ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN

    ???

    Hit me with your thoughts.

I pretty much only use the full name outside of this forum. Here on the Ultimate boards, you already know what I mean when I say Spider-Man, X-Men, The Ultimates, etc.

To me it looks better with the colon and unless Im typing to fast and forget it I try to make sure I put it in.

    Ultimate Comics: (series)

I say still Ultimate <-title-> or for the Ultimates just "Ultimates" outside the forums and my shop knows what I mean.

I'm hoping the W.C.O.S. stands for West Coast Omnipotent Soldiers.

Yes, when I'm speaking it verbally I just call them Ultimate <Title> (ex: Ultimate X-Men), Solicits officially call them Ultimate Comics <Title> (ex: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man), but if I can I try to remember to type them as Ultimate Comics: <Title> (ex: Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates) because that's technically what this branding is supposed to mean. As in this is the SPIDER-MAN series that falls under the ULTIMATE COMICS imprint. I think colon is best but forget to include it half the time when I type
