The way I was going to score is if the person appears on camera in a featured role, i.e. not just standing in the background or similar, they get 3 points. So in the case of the last RAW both CM Punk and Nash got 3 points since they were promo segments and not in matches.

Edit: After thinking things over a little more, that would be a little unfair to people who do promo segments which are a big part of current TV and getting things over. They would get the same amount of points as a valet, commentator, etc. Maybe we should add a category for appearance with promo/talking segment? Maybe +5?

I did another sample scoring. This one for a PPV since I wanted to see how much losing and gaining titles and the extra points worked out.

Losing a title can actually get you negative points.

Actually losing a championship on a regular TV show can be just as costly since you do not get as many appear or match points as a PPV. Doing the scoring for when Ezekiel Jackson lost the title to Cody Rhodes on Smackdown, he got -5 points (3+5-2-1-10).

I think that would be a little too restricting. If people pick correctly, they can pick lower card guys and still get points.

Say if someone picked Cody Rhodes or Justin Gabriel, they would have gotten a decent amount of points recently since they both had two matches on the recent Smackdown.

Plus part of the game is trying to figure out if the WWE is going to push new guys or depush current talent.

    LOL, just out of curiosity:

what would have happened if I had chosen:

    Little Jimmy!

would every single person in the stadium count? do I get bazillion points? or do I only get points each time R-Truth refers to a specific Little Jimmy? LOL

Not a fan of open picks. All becomes homogenous with the pool of picks being about 7 or 8 wrestlers, but so be it.

I had a thought. I could also count Superstars. That way lower card guys would get some more points.

Here is how the recent Superstars would have scored.

    KEY A=3, P=2, M=5, W=7 L=-2, WPS=+1 LPS=-1, WC=+20, RC=+8, LC=-10

    Jack Korpela 3 (A)
    Matt Striker 3 (A)
    Scott Stanford 3 (A)
    Josh Matthews 3 (A)
    Trent Barreta 5 (A, M, L, LPS)
    Wade Barrett 16 (A, M, W, WPS)
    Jose Vargas 5 (A, M, L, LPS)
    Brodus Clay 16 (A, M, W, WPS)
    Santino Marella 16 (A, M, W, WPS)
    Primo 5 (A, M, L, LPS)
    Zack Ryder 16 (A, M, W, WPS)
    Drew McIntyre 5 (A, M, L, LPS)

I guess it has to rely on how high participation is. Ideally, you could count Raw, SD, PPVs and Superstars. But as you know, it seems Raw gets the most attention around here. No point in you hunting down a bunch of stats for just 5 people's picks. Give the trial run the first shot. Then expand. Thanks for doing this btw. Good idea!

I went ahead and counted this month's Raws, Superstars, Smackdowns, and Summer Slam points to see how the points total.

As you might expect, some of the "top" names get the most points. But some are low. If someone choose Christian and John Cena, they would have been on the lower end of the points totals. Plus it seems people who do a lot of cross brand appearances fair well. The PPVs can be the real game chager since they are extra points and tend to be when titles change or retained.

Go back to the end of July, would you have chosen Beth Phoenix, John Morrison, Wade Barret, the tag champs, or Cody Rhodes? So while choosing the big names can be a good bet in some cases, it also helps if you can predict which wrestlers the WWE will push/de-push the next month.

Punkolution, you picked 6 picks instead of 5.

Unless you edit it by the end of the day PST, I'll take the first 5 listed so your picks will be:

    Cm punk
    Cena
    ADR
    Rtruth
    Miz

I did a little experiment with my points counting spreadsheet and tested how not counting Superstars would change the standings.

The top 8 was the same, but after that it changed due to the wrestlers who frequently appear on the show dropped down the list.

I think counting Superstars will help get people to vary their picks since the mid to lower card guys frequently appear on the show.

Plus it seems the WWE uses the show to spotlight people who they want to push in the future on the bigger shows.

Doing picks for the entire month would allow Smackdown to be counted as well as RAW.
