I collect Northlanders, and honestly had no idea it had been cancelled. Too bad since it's one of my favorite titles. If people wanted to see more books like that stick around they could always buy them in bigger numbers lol. There's no conspiracy here by DC, the Vertigo stuff just isn't selling (I was a fan of Lucifer too).

No DC work for Wood. No DC work for Bryan Miller. What the hell? DC keeps letting good writers slip away. I just don't get it.

I liked Northlanders, but ultimately dropped it. (may pick up the trades though.) I've been following DMZ in the trades and while the story meandered a bit in the middle, the last two trades kicked major butt. I don't see how letting writers like Wood go helps DC in any way.

I'm not much for super hero comics (other than Batman) but I would have followed Wood to Super Girl and at least given the title a chance simply based on Wood's involvement. Thanks DC, you saved me three bucks!

I really wish he was able to talk about what he had planned for Supergirl. The current plans for that series have me facepalming and asking "again?!?"

Don't forget Nick Spencer. I believe his first non-indie work was at DC and now he is blowing up over at Marvel.

And he was also slated to take over Supergirl.

So depressing. He's a great writer, and I'd have loved to see what he'd do on Supergirl. :(

Same for me. I have little-to-no interest in that character, but I would have certainly checked the book out if Wood were writing it.

I have no interest in Supergirl, but I would have read it if Woods was writing it.

This seems more like the result of a behind the scenes editorial power shift at DC than DC making decisions based on talent.

And looks like Vertigo and everything/one connected with it got the shaft.

Except for Jeff Lemire, Scott Snyder, and Pete Milligan. Two books each in the relaunch, and every one of them looks strong except Milligan's Red Lanterns because it's saddled with Ed Benes' art.

Northlanders is another series I'll always keep in my collection just for the occasional repeat reading. One of my favorite Vertigo reads, or for that matter, one of my favorite reads from any publisher. Good luck in your post-DC career Brian Wood, you wrote some terrific stories.

DC have kinda just lost what good comics are about; chasing an awful era where sales were huge because of the speculative market that built up around the industry.

Leifeld has a book, but Irving and Jock don't? crazy.

That said, I can't wait to read The Massive!
Yeah i have seen many creators that dont fit 90s Image style is gone from DC now. Irving,Jock among many others.

Finch and co is thier new favs.

I just hope those artist like BCW can do their work with othe publishers.

I really doubt we'll see Wood at Marvel. The way he spoke he sounds too excited about the concepts he's developing for his own creator-owned work. IF he does step into another DC/Marvel book it won't be filling it, he at least deserves to start a series and I can't see him being too keen on picking up right where another writer leaves off.

To echo what many have already said, yes, DC made a big mistake in letting this guy go. However, even though Wood has been a truly phenomenal storyteller, he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd even be interested telling editor-ordained stories on books he has limited creative control over. Some guys have figured out how to make this work within DC's ranks, like Morrison, Snyder, and Lemire but not everyone can do that. I'd rather Wood move on to companies like Image, Dark Horse, Oni etc where he'll be happy as a creator and be able to maintain his high watermark of creativity.

The one thing to look forward to for us fans is that he seems to have a nice output coming our way soon and that can only be a great thing. Let's see another blockbuster Wood book right next to Vaughan's Saga.
