Ways to counter a character with Superspeed

Some people believe that super speed is the most difficult power to write in comics, because the things that would pose a threat to slower heroes should be easily eluded by a speedster. This leads to stories in which speedsters are protrayed as alot weaker then they actually are. (for example deadpool vs the Flash in identity Crisis)

My question is how would you realistcally take down a character like the Flash or even Quicksilver?

This would be better suited for rumbles.

In any case:

1) Being so tough the speester can't hurt you anyway and gets bored/tired
2) Being someone who the speedster would hurt themselves if they tried to hit (made of lava etc)
3) Having the ability to fill the area around you with death (like making explosions around you so they can't hurt you)
4) Being fast yourself.
5) Manipulating them so they don't want to attack you in the first place.
6) Being Wolverine.

If you have ice powers...
make an ice wall
or ice the floor
or put them .... on ICE!

You could also gas them
or stick some blades hidden in the floor (they'll rush without looking down)
or levitate them into the air
or force their center of gravity to be heavier (there are a couple characters who can do that)

out smarting them . Take batman he out smarts Wally and Barry all the time. Be so tough they don't hurt you. Electric wiring. Explosions in a room.

realistically you could wrap flash in wire so he couldnt run at all.

Depends, of course. I'm not up on what Flash's powers are currently. Barry certainly could have just vibrated his molecules through the wire.
