This isn't your traditional Mary Sue joins the team and saves the day sort of fare. Instead I use the characters as is, less any changes for esthetics.

The story is called X-men: Celestial Wars and it's actually gonna be a series of shorts featuring various characters as the X-men decide to go to the root of mutation to find a cure.

You can find the first story here at my blog. Hope you enjoy and comments are much appreciated.
I like it. :) It's a very ambitious concept for a story. I know you said in the description it's gonna be various characters, but I'd recommend focusing on no more than three or four total (definitely Storm and Cyclops), along with their supporting casts, so that the story gains a sense of depth.

Great job at concisely explaining everything for new readers, as well. Your imagery is also gorgeous; phrases like "ambient electrical energy", "freezing rain assails," and "icy rains pelt her skin" really stood out to me.

The one thing I was not in love with was the dialogue. Some of it sounded a bit stiff and overly formal; however, I will keep in mind that Storm and Cyclops were the two main characters for this section, and they're both very stiff and formal people.

    Post more soon! :)

Thanks Time_to_Zap! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I'll have to take what you said into consideration. From what I have planned I think it could be easier to pare down the cast but I did want to check in on a few of the supporting cast here and there. I think you might be right. I'll probably eventually morph into a dual story about Cyclops and Storm. I do have a lot of crazy stuff planned that would do more to affect them.

I've got more coming on the heels of that one actually. I'll have to figure out how to make the dialogue work better but I'm hoping to inject a bit more life in to it in the next section.

It is pretty ambitious but I'm hoping I can accomplish it. It just started as a little side project to work on in between my novel but I'm kinda digging it so far.

I have an idea for an extended What If?, but I haven't found the motivation to write it:

What if the X-Men never made it back from space after fighting the Brood?

It would start with the scene in Uncanny X-Men #167 where the New Mutants are watching Magnum P.I. in the living room, and instead of the X-Men storming in, Xavier would sneak downstairs, grow into a full-fledged Brood Queen and try to implant the students with eggs. Just as he was about to succeed, Karma would notice something amiss, turn around and scream just as Xavier-Brood gets shot through the head by Tessa of the Hellfire Club. She had noticed something wrong with Xavier when they were captured by Donald Pierce and had run the data upon returning to the Club's headquarters.

From here, I'm torn between the New Mutants going to the Massachusetts Academy or Tessa taking over Xavier's spy network and incorporating the students into it.

I'll read it and let you know what I think later, Ok?

I haven't written any fan-fics on the X-Men yet, but I have lots of ideas. The most prominent one is about the Exiles. I wanted to do something with the idea of Jean meeting with Marvel's other cosmic heroes to face some kind of threat to the multiverse, but nothing has congealed in this old brain as of yet.

(raises hand from back row, stands up)

    Hi. My name is Kirayoshi--

    ("Hi, Kirayoshi.")

    --and I'm a fanfic-writer.

I recently finished the first part of a (hopefully) continuing Colossus/Kitty Pryde fanfic called "Shadow and Steel". I started writing it shortly after "Schism" so it incorporates that arc to a degree. My premise: Colossus(with a little help from Dr. Strange) manages to rid himself of Cyttorak's influence, while Kitty suffers a bout of PTSD after fighting a Sentinel. Both having become disenchanted with what the X-Men have become in the wake of the Schism, they choose to leave their respective teams, and run into each other at the University of Illinois, Chicago. While they're rebuilding their relationship, a recurring Spider-Man villain Tombstone is making a move to take over organized crime in Chicago, forcing Colossus and Kitty to step up as the Windy City's new resident superheroes. Hopefully future chapters(if and when I get around to them) will involve Arcade and a classic-line up Excalibur reunion.

Here's the first part, "The Chicago Way".

And as long as I'm here, might as well plug a friend's fic. "Deathless" by Jeremy Harper, featuring Whedon's initial cast of AXM, provides a different, and much darker take on the resurrection of Colossus. Note to any Marvel writers lurking out there; this is how you do a Dark Colossus story, none of this Juggernaut crap!

I can't believe someone had the courage to start a fanfic thread here; that kind of thing is so usually relegated to the comparative "backwater" of Livejournal, lol. Anyway, I've written some Nightcrawler-focused fic in the last year, mostly 'cause I miss him. If anyone's interested I'm on fanfiction.net: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3197463/Marg_Hammerman. There's also some really good recent fic on my favourites list on ff.net, some of it by other people registered here who may or may not want to join this thread.

My own feeling about fanfic as a whole is that is can be a total departure from canon or it can be a kind of grassroots attempt to work with/rewrite canon. I personally try to do the second option but I like both things for what they are, as long as they're creative/well done. Anyone who dismisses all fanfic out of hand is a prude Also, as others have point out, at least eighty percent of all fanfic is superior to X-Men Forever :P

Anyone hear about how 50 Shades of Grey was originally sexualized fan fiction of Twilight? Who wants to be the first sexualized fan fiction writer of X-Men that gets translated into a huge hit?

Default X-Force United: An X-Men Fanfiction by MrV

Welcome, the idea for this thread came from a post I made to the thread What is your dream X-book? and from my previous attempt at writing X-Men fanfiction, found here: Ultimate X-Men 2.0

Unlike other X-Men stories, this one is heavily influenced by Ultimate Marvel but set in a reality closer to the movie versions. That being said, in my story you will never see things like magic, Phoenix Force or pointless resurrections so common in mainstream Earth-616. In a sense my story will be a reboot, establishing a brand new continuity. Because of this, I designate this reality the classification "Earth-2013."

Note to moderators: the reason I posted this in the X-books instead of Ultimate Marvel was to have a wider demographic, as this isn't an Ultimate Marvel fan fiction, but an X-Men one. Ultimate only provided inspiration but my story is not set in Earth-1610 whatsoever.

    PREMISE:

The government has sanctioned mutants to be shot-on-sight following the assassination of the President of the United States by a mysterious mutant who calls herself Mystique, thus leading to the activation of the Sentinel Initiative. There would never be a school for mutants, instead the team would be on the run trying to fight the government and liberating mutants from concentration camps. Here, Charles Xavier's dream has been long dead and the protagonists must revive the cause. The main themes would be redemption and hope.

The original X-Men (Professor X, Angel, Wonder Man, Polaris, Cyclops and Marvel Girl) would be seen as martyrs and motivation for Magneto to take revenge against humanity for their deaths. Magneto would be an anti-hero not a villain, who had a bromance with Charles Xavier and initially believed in his dream for co-existence until the latter's assassination by Sentinels.

    CORE TEAM: X-FORCE

    LEADER: Maximus "Max" Eisenhardt/Magneto
A middle-aged man who witnessed his family (parents, wife and twin children) get slaughtered by humans in Egypt. He became a follower of Charles Xavier and avid believer of his cause. After Xavier's death, Magneto began developing a grudge against humanity and took it upon himself to protect his kind, treating them like a substitute family and going as far as murdering those who endanger their safety. He can manipulate magnetic fields and any kind of metal.

    NOTABLE MEMBERS:
    • Molly Williams/Titan: 12-year-old rebellious mutant daughter of founding X-Man Wonder Man (Simon Williams). She blames humans, her mother included, for her father's death and supports Magneto's cause. Her powers are flight, invulnerability and super strength.
    • Henry McCoy/Beast: a gifted scientist in his mid-20s and inventor of the mutant-locating device Cerebro, which he obtained from the hacked software of a Sentinel. His appearance is that of a short burly man with enlarged appendages (no blue skin or fur), incredible agility and acrobatic abilities. His ape-like traits make him timid and insecure of himself, resulting in being unable to confess his feelings to his crush, Storm.
    • Gabriel Summers/Vulcan: the younger brother of founding X-Man Cyclops (Scott Summers). He is an easy going teenager and closet homosexual. He can absorb any form of ambient energy and use it both offensively and defensively. He also dislikes being in the shadow of his deceased brother Scott.
    • Ororo Munroe/Storm: an orphan from South Africa in her late teens. Despite her criminal past, she is a pacifist and independent woman who believes in Xavier's original cause and is considered by Magneto a "born leader." She is a gifted technician and Beast's assistant. She has a crush for fellow mutant Vulcan, unaware of his true sexual orientation. Storm can manipulate the weather.
    • Santo Vaccarro/Rockslide: a mutant psionic entity able to reform his physical body at will with any materials readily available. He still cannot accept the loss of his original human body and is obsessed with recovering it. He has feelings for fellow mutant Moonstar.
    • Danielle "Dani" Lonestar/Moonstar: a Native American teenager with psionic powers that include empathy, premonition, neural arrows, and illusion casting. She prides herself in her heritage and is the spiritual support of the team.
    • Kevin Xavier/Proteus: the son of Charles Xavier and Magneto's apprentice. Most of his teammates do not trust him. His only known powers are telepathy and teleportation, though he may be purposely withholding his true potential.

    ANTAGONISTS:
    • Red Queen: a mysterious woman in a red cloak with telekinetic abilities.
    • Dr. Marc Claremont: a prison doctor and former employee of Oscorp who experiments on mutants.
    • Thomas Howlett/Sabretooth: Wolverine's sadistic older brother.
    • Remi LeBeau/Gambit: a homeless mutant with the ability to supercharge objects with explosive energy.
    • Yuriko Oyama/Deathstrike: Storm's former childhood friend and nemesis.
    • Sebastian Shaw: ruthless CEO of Shaw Industries and mutant with the ability to absorb kinetic energy. He is the co-leader of the Hellfire Club.
    • Emma Frost: headmistress of the prestigious Graymalkin Academy for Gifted Youths and mutant with the ability to turn her skin and surroundings into solid diamond. She is the co-leader of the Hellfire Club.
    • The Hellions: Mutant team overseen by Emma Frost, consisting of: Bishop, Havok, Iceman, Rogue, Sway and Colossus.
    • Bloody Legion: a mutant terrorist group that hates humans. They are best known for successfully assassinating the President of the United States. They consist of Typhoid Mary, Omega Red, Mystique, Riptide, and Arclight.
    • Hellfire Club: a centuries old organization whose goal is to manipulate human civilization through the economy.
    • The Brotherhood: a group of mutants who follow Charles Xavier's ideology of fighting for a world where mutants and humans can co-exist. They are the rivals of X-Force, who only believe in ensuring the survival of their own. Notable members include: Psylocke, Juggernaut, Shadowcat, Darwin, Nightcrawler and Armor.
    • Sentinels: army of androids created by Bolivar Trask to hunt down mutants.
    • Shadow King: a psionic entity who inhabits the mindscape and has a mysterious connection to Moonstar.
    • Weapon XI: a government-sponsored Canadian mutant team created to combat the growing threat of mutants. Members include: Deadpool, Guardian, Sasquatch and Aurora.
    • Black Tom Cassidy: a bedridden mutant with the ability to bring inanimate objects to life and possess multiple people at once.
    • Brood: Shadow King's minions.
    • The Moderators: ghostly entities who regulate time travel. Whenever someone tries to go back in time to alter the timeline the Moderators will hunt down that individual.

My story will begin soon. In the meantime you can ask questions and speculate.

What's the point of all this?
VIVA KUSASAN!!! Morrison On Magneto: I made him into a stupid old drug-addicted idiot. CC had done a lot of good work over the years to redeem the character. And I went in and sh*t on all of it.

Rockslide can't be killed, he is a psionic entity like Shadow King and can survive without a physical body. Since this will be a new beginning, most of them will be inexperienced at first, except for Magneto and Proteus.

Yeah, why not? It's not the same Vulcan you know from Uncanny X-Men, so there's nothing wrong with giving the character some differences from the mainstream version.

if Yuriko Oyama/Deathstrike is going to be storm nemesis yukio is better for that character. Does she blames strom for something? Also, about the team, you are putting to many over powered mutants (just vulcan and proteus are omega level, plus magneto and storm).
