The Legion of Super Heroes "Big 7"

There isn't one. Legion is the most democratic super-hero team ever. Everyone is equal no matter their start date or whether they went to the academy or were in the subs or not.

As a reader, its those 7 that stand out to me as the foundations of the Legion but that doesn't mean Dawnstar or Gates are less important, they represent something different. A different era of the team.

Dawnstar represents pre-COIE Eighties Legion; Gates represents post-COIE Nineties Legion.

It's funny how both are unique characters with interesting powers and designs yet each one represents very different periods of LSH history. Now they're both together on the same team and thus now represent the current decade's LSH era.

We all know the Justice League's big 7, but what is the Legion's?

I'm making a callage of DC heroes for a wallpaper, I don't want to leave out the Legion of Super Heroes and I'm not very familiar with them. Who would you say their most importan 7 members are. If 7 is too tough I could do 8 or 9.

Also a few of their most important enemies?

First three are the three charter members : Lightning Lad, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl. Then Mon-El, Dream Girl, Chameleon Boy, Ultra Boy.

Villains : Mordru, Time Trapper, Fatal Five

Without scrolling up, certainly the original trio of Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl.

Brainiac 5 and Mon-El. That's five.

And probably Phantom Girl and Ultra Boy. All but Mon-El were featured pretty extensively in Legion: Secret Origin - admittedly you could "almost" swap Mon-El and Chameleon Boy or Colossal Boy, but I think Mon-El both from a power level and a level of greater importance gets the nod.

The Big 7 depends largely on which version of the legion you're talking about as well as when.

the original 80s and retroboot-post flashpoint version:
it's Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, Brainiac 5, Mon-El, Ultra Boy, & Chameleon Boy (these seem to be among Paul's favorites to use)

for the reboot team*at the begining: Cosmic Boy, Live Wire, Saturn Girl, Apparition, Triad, Chameleon, Invisible Kid, Later on Shrinking Violet, Kid Quantum got more promience than some of these.

3boot team: Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Invisible Kid, Triplicate Girl, Phantom Girl

It tends to change depending on the era, even the founders don't always get much focus - after the first few issues the 80's Levitz run barely used Lightning Lad while Element Lad, Dream Girl & Brainiac 5 were probably the core characters.
