Ultimate Spiderman was my first comic book. He's what got me into comics and even going back and reading those old issues now I can see why, it really was a consistantly awesome series for years. To me Ultimate Spidey is the true Spidey.

That being said I dropped the book shortly after I heard how awful Ultimatum and I've since become more of a DC guy.

This is the first time I've been interested in Ultimate Spidey for years. Morales sounds interesting enough, his costume is pretty damn cool and I like where this could take the series; the one problem with the original Ultimate Spidey series is it's basically a retelling of classic spidey stories, where as with this new character they could take him in a completely new direction. Introduce new villains, new story lines, play around with his powers and personal life ect. I'm excited to see where this goes.

As far as the hate goes for Miles Morales a lot of it has me angry. As much as society has progressed it's shocking that will still live in a world where a different character in a Spiderman costume not being white is an issue for anyone.

Alongside super powered villains, I'd like Bendis to address other issues as well, like prejudice. Imagine Miles having to try and conceal his shooters or Spider-suit whilst being taken over by a cop and randomly searched? That's the type of story that I'd like to see done with the new Spidey.

Love the name by the way: Spider-Man goes miles for his morals.
That's a good point. And honestly if something like that did happen in the series, I don't think it would be racist. It's just a reflection on what happens in real life. We're not reading about a white boy from Queens anymore. He'll face prejudice on both sides of his life. Prejudice from the people because of his race and prejudice from the super hero 'community' for wearing the spider-man name and costume.

Indeed. I think it's bold, refreshing and very much needed. I hope that Bendis accurately addresses these concerns for a contemporary audience.

Bendis talks about the negative webbing (in the mask) that Joe Q,is making Sara draw, which imply's (at least to me) that Joe Q designed it.

How do you pronounce "Morales"? is it like "Morals" or "More-ra-lees"?

Part of the reason is so that we can have a proper thread to discuss Miles without it getting hijacked about people who want to continue to complain about race and "pandering."

The day he was announced I pronounced it like morals as well but later thought to myself that it didn't sound quite right. So I looked it up and found that audio piece so that's how I pronounce it now too

Exactly. Besides in one and a half weeks time we will have possibly a whole issue worth of Miles content to discuss. Then for sure when issue #1 premieres, and beyond.

After watching this interview,I see that the design was done by both, her and Joe Q,I guess it was Joe's idea for the negative webbing in the mask, thus, why Bendis mentions it in the link I provided earlier...

Now here's the million dollar question. Do you think that name was choose on purpose because most people will think morals when they see the name?

That's a tough one. Bendis said that there have been many names for him during the creation process but since everyone at Marvel couldn't agree on one he just wrote Miles Morales into the script and said "This is how it's gonna be." No word yet on why he chose the name.

Even if it was chosen randomly like that, it still sounds good and is a great name.
