He changed. You seriously cannot expect the show to remain exactly as it was during the "classic series," can you? Once again, if you aren't getting any enjoyment out of 'Who,' you're more than free to stop watching it.

According to DWM the rest of the season starts next April, with the 50th anniversary celebration filming around that time as well (I'm guessing the season seven finale will have a trailer for it at the end).
As for the Snowmen, they look more like the horror version of Jack Frost than anything muppety.

The original "snowmen" the Yeti looked far more muppety (specifically, Sweetums), and the Spirodians from Planet of the Daleks looked a lot like the "Yep Yep" aliens.
