Default CBR: Millar Ramps Up Millarworld Comics

From the end of "Superior" to a simultaneous comic /movie plan for "Supercrooks" and from Dave Gibbons to Frank Quitely as collaborators, Mark Millar is going full steam ahead with creator-owned comics. Plus, [em]exclusive[/em] art!

It sounds like he's done with Marvel for a while. If this takes off, there wouldn't be any reason for him to go back to them.

I'm glad to see that he's not happy about the publishing schedules of Superior and Kick-Ass 2. It might just be lip service but it's something he certainly has to address if he expects Millarworld to be successful. The only way money comes in is if product goes out the door. Steady releases means steady revenue, assuming they sell well. It's just good business sense and he seems to be thinking this through pretty thoroughly because cutting ties with the Big Two could be financially disastrous for him if he intends on sticking with comics.

I dunno. I think Millar needs a better editor or more self control. Stuff like Red Son, Old Man Logan and even Wanted were good, but Kick Ass was unsatisfying and Nemesis was woeful. I think his earlier success has gotten to him and he no longer stops to consider whether an idea is good.

Oh, and the truckload of hyperbole he's piled on the Quitely book has put me off it entirely.

I always loved that line 4th Rail made about Millar being a one trick pony. Very true. Give the guy his due though his comics do translate well into films with the right re-writes and directors.

Millar as a comic book writer gets a big no from me but as a guy who sits in Hollywood meetings and sells ideas a yes. They like dumbed down over the top version of things that have been done before. To be fair so far, so do I.

I'd really wish that superstar artists like McNiven or Quiteley would do less work for big licences and/or big name writers and would go on underrated titles like Avengers Academy which could use a sales boost.
Well, I guess I can't blame them for going where the money is. But it maintain the gap between high selling and underrated titles and writers.

They had been published under Icon, an imprint of Marvel.

So excited for the Millar/Quitely reunion. That Authority run was inspirational to me.

Its not. His line is probably going to run through Marvel's Icon imprint but Marvel doesnt own it.

"so they head for Europe where the only comic book heroes are bloody Lucky Luke or Asterix. "

I cracked up at that. I like Millar's work *shrug* it's big and entertaining.

The amount of success this man has had is astounding.

I like the fact that he is going to be doing his own projects for at least the next three years now. Hopefully, this will solve his timing issues.

He may or may not ever reach a greater level of quality in his work but he does what he does better than anyone else and it is fun to be a part of, mostly.

I'm not surprised that Mark didn't mention War Heroes is on the 2012 slate. I am surprised that he didn't mention his next superhero comic/movie project: CASH COW! I hear it's printed on toilet paper with a dingleberry retailer incentive.

Authority, Wanted, Ultimates 1 and 2, Civil War, Old Man Logan, and his FF run were fantastic comics! I still reread these and drool over the art but lately there have been more misses than hits. Kick Ass was not that great (both the movie and the book). Anything with the word ultimate in the title after 2, sucked; even with Yu's art. Superior is not proving to be great and it is totally Spielberg to me. I used to get the feeling he wrote for directors instead of the story and this interview confirms it.

You'll get no more money out of me, you leprachaun.
