Yeah. Strange sent his astral self to Druid, went into his head without permission, forced a bunch of information in there, and left him to deal with the Secret Defenders. Druid was crying by the time it was over. Truly horrific.

I don't think Marvel knew what to do with Dr. Druid. So they wrote him as a kind of cut-rate Strange -- similar origin, similar hair, similar 'eye' motif, but with Druid having a drastically limited power set and insisting he wasn't a real sorcerer.

It's kind of sad in that Druid is one of marvels first super heroes. When Stan and Jack made him, he pre-dated the FF.
I think somewhwere along the way, the poor guy sort of got a "loser" stigma about him. Maybe it was because of the way his Avengers run ended, I don't know.
MTV has been doing Avenger VS X-Men War Journals, which are behind the scenes video, with plenty of interviews. Here's one about the process of writing for a few of the Architects, including Matt Fraction. His part starts about 1:40. It explains a lot. LOL!
It's better to watch it for all the hand gestures, funny bits, and tone, but here's the pertinent part.
