Kevin Nowlan did a bunch of great ones for the final run.
It's hard to go wrong with Michael Golden and Kevin Nowlan. Some great and gorgeous choices!

I also think that an Asgardianized version of angel would >>>>> his Archangel persona, his 'cute feathery' wings would be just as strong and bad ass as metal wings.

And let's not forget that Valkyre has experience riding winged horses ;)
Very interesting idea! I don't recall that, but I'm missing at least half the New Defenders, I think. Angel is ... quite the ladies man, IIRC, and they do look chummy. But I can't recall Val ever having a relationship in the Defenders. Anyone else?

Now, there is that Asgardian / Mutant story arc, where something like that might have bloomed, but I think that happens a few years later, doesn't it?

That Michael Golden cover is absolutely epic. A comic masterpiece for certain. It is hard to beat Golden's Strange.

I don't remember anything of that nature either. And Angel was with Candy Southern at this time.

He did a pretty nice Ghost Rider too.

Not strictly Defenders-related, but when I was a kid I always had fun trying to find his stylised "G" on the covers; they were often incorporated into the artwork somewhere.

Nope Candy Southern (Warren's girlfriend) was actually Defenders team leader and the team was staying with them at Warren's New Mexico mountain home.

Brunhilde had no romantic interests through most of the run. THere was some sparks with her and Namor before it became New Defenders but not really explored. Val's closest relationship was with Patsy (hellcat) something that hasn't been explored really since Vol.1 ended.

That's right! One of the few times you see Namor saying 'no.' IIRC, it was because Lady Dorma had just died.

I can't believe the one issue I'm missing in the first 100 issues is THIS one! I'm a huge Marvel Dracula fan! Well, at least the Marvel Wolfman and Gene Colan run. MUST rectify this ASAP.

As others have posted, at the time, Warren was as steady as he could get with Candy Southern, however, even if he wasn't, both he and Ice-Man were being psyonically influenced by Moondragon to feel atracted to her (I wonder why that didn't work with the Beast?). It was part of an ongoing subplot that culminated when Heather was freed from her headband, and was also responsible for Cloud's wierd duo-gender status. Poor Bobby, he couldn't get a break in those days.

    Peace

Hiya, Sietta_Bacc! Glad to see you here. Yes, the introductory posts are still very much a work in progress. Will be updating from posts here and some of those links as I can.

I don't think Bobby's gotten many break THESE days, either.

I'd forgotten that about Moondragon. She reallly was an interesting character in a very Defenders like fashion.

    What happened to Candy Southern?

She was murdered by Cameron Hodge and the Right in the pages of X-Factor, back when Archangel was staring in it, right before Inferno, if I'm not mistaken.

I just read an article ... she was FRIDGED!!! Then she was resurrected and she sacrificed herself for Warren.

I think Hank resented her attempts to usurp his unofficial 'leadership' of the team too much to be influenced by her like Bobby and Warren were. It seemed like every other conversation between Hank and Moondragon was a heated argument.

I really need to re-read these.

Hank had a lot of issues about being blue and furry also, at this time, IIRC.

So, there was sexual tension in the air.
