Loeb writing Cable? Damn. Had me excited for a second. I'm a fair Cable fan when he's written well. But been burned too many times by Loeb flops in recent years. A great shame.

Loeb did a good job on CABLE in the 90's which was his first Marvel work. Some argue it is the best run on Cable and one of the best runs period. I am willing to give him a chance on this even though I didn't read ALL of his Cable work i did own a few issues.

I'm excited to get a new Cable book and I'm excited to see Loeb and Ed on it. If they can make it as big and fun as their Red Hulk stuff was this is gonna be a blast.

If this was still Loeb FROM the 90s I'd have no problem. But it isn't. In my opinion his last five projects at Marvel gave all shown just how out of touch he is with modern storytelling and comics in general. And for that reason I'm not interested.

In PART that's my problem too. YES, Cable IS a 90s character, but he's more complex than 90s Big-Dumb-Action, light-on-plot, characterisations.

You want to bring Cable back, then it has to be infinitely more than JUST the stereotype of Big Guns and muscles. It has to be more than all those things people belittle Cable for being.

Red Hulk was fine if you switched off your brain and seriously lowered your expectations. If you didn't it was just... plain... ARSE.

Wrong creative team to achieve that for me.

I think that's why this is good new though. Because he is going back to the character that he loves so much. I truly believe that this is Loeb's favorite character.

But THAT Cable is a stereotype of what most people think of as the very Icon for what was wrong with 90s comics. He stands out as bad design.

I honestly think they should have given this project to a writer slightly more in touch with modern comics.

I read all of Loeb's work over in the Ultimate Universe praying he'd turn it around. He didn't. In fact his approach poisoned an entire line of comics.

Did the same to Heroes on TV.

He's not the guy you let relaunch things any more.

    ^^
He is if you want a book to sell (Marvel's number one goal, let's not kid ourselves).

And his run on Hulk with McGuinness sold really well.

His run on Cable was THE best the character has been. I really hope he brings back Blaquesmith and Domino.

It was a good run. I wouldn't say the best.

It was very much of it's time. I'm not sure how well you'd actually say it has aged.

If he can write it well and bring back Bishop and fix that mess, then I'm cool with it.
