Simple. HELLBOY 3, produced by Peter Jackson. NOW !!!

My money is on option B.Joking aside, the filmmaker firmly stated that he will not make the final movie without Perlman, so either they'll get the band back together while the actor is still willing and capable, or else the franchise will likely eventually fall into the now popular reboot zone.
The other two movies were barely profitable. Add that to the way they (seemingly) had to fight tooth and nail to even get what they had for the first two, I highly doubt any studio is interested in rebooting this franchise. I'm amazed the studios made the second one at all.
But overall, I'm glad they're being honest and upfront about what's going on with it.
It's a shame too. I'm guessing that the studios committed to the second Hellboy on the strength of the good press from Pan's Labyrinth. Now that GdT has stepped down from The Hobbit, it seems like a lot of that momentum has evaporated. I'm happy he's sticking to his guns on these projects, but I wish he released more films, even if that would mean going back to lower budgets.
Gimme that straw I'll clutch at anything I can!
NOT joking, love these movies, need the third one.
In the case of Hellboy 2, I would imagine it is because that movie was totally overshadowed by the other big movies of summer 2008. If I remember correctly, The Dark Knight opened one week after it.
I would definately welcome a third Hellboy. At the very least, it has a distinct tone and plotlines as compared to virtually all other big budget comic book films.
Give me more Hellboy, i don't care i will wire you money just make another hellboy i loved both Hellboy and Hellboy 2 more Hellboy!
Agreed on all points, Rick. Great assessment. I always thought HB2 would have fared much better in the fall, or as a straight-up Christmas day release.
While I too would welcome a 3rd entry to the series, I can't see it happening until well after Pacific Rim is released and is hopefully a big success. That will give GDT the industry momentum again to get any passion project he wishes off the ground. But in all honesty, even then I wouldn't doubt that the passion project he prefers is At The Mountains of Madness. From the way GDT and Perlman are talking it sounds like they both would rather do anything BUT make another HB flick.
Oh, well. We'll always have 2 badass HB flicks we can watch whenever we like before a Twilight director is brought in to reboot and hipster-it-up.
Because the studio had to share the money with the theaters and there were also marketing costs, so the movies probably just broke even? Just an assumption. I do not know how much profit the movies made, but people often forget the difference between the money a movie makes in theaters and profit.
That said I loved the movies and would like a third one.

Three armed cops and a writer makes four. You’re under arrest, so get on the floor.
