Nice visuals, but they look more like inventory covers than actual movie concept art.
Same sentiments as kalorama, looks like the same ole same ole from Ross
This doesnt look like concept art for the movie. It looks like backstock work from the same shit we've seen from Ross for years.
Eh, Comics is a pretty cool guy...
They're nice Alex Ross "Green Lantern" images.
Nothing groundbreaking, still nice to see. But doesn't strike me as"Concept Art" more like Ross making comic book art look 3D as he always does.
Again, they look very nice. Like his series "Justice" but all "Green Lantern".
I like them but I don't see how it counts as movie concept art.
This one looks particularly Silver Age:

Wouldn't mind seeing a full comic of it. Like the way Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Capt Marvel got those large size one-shots.
But nothing seems like it's trying to be a movie.
I agree with the overall sentiment here. It's almost as if Ross took the job knowing that his idea of literally translating the specific comic costumes to film wouldn't be used but that afterwards, he'd have good, general "Green Lantern" art to RE-sell as prints or covers.
That, and while I enjoy his work, why on earth does his GL mask have to look like Hal went to a corner store around Halloween, bought an off the shelf mask and just spray painted it green? He often paints the suit materializing like it should, as a construct of the ring itself, yet insists on rendering it like a cheep Halloween costume.

Yeah, I'm not Ross's biggest fan. I think he makes great static images; stuff that can be used for posters and covers and stuff, but I'm not a fan of his interior work on comics.
But, this stuff is a hundred times better than those crap glowy, green, veiny CGI suits that eventually became part of the GL film.
Edit: That said, if they wanted concept art from Ross, it would have been cheaper to just go back and look at the original Silver Age comics Hal Jordan appeared in. XD

Alex who??
Dinner is the detour on the road to dessert.
On the day they handed out common sense, a lot of people were short-changed.
More accurately this is probably key art as opposed to concept art.
=s=
I don't think so. Key art is part of the development of marketing and promotional campaigns, which is generally a later stage process in the film production cycle. The article states that these images were "early concept art." Besides, why would Ross develop promotional images using designs that don't actually appear in the movie?
Not getting some of the hatred for Ross in this thread. The "same old, same old" from him is about a thousand times better than a lot of people. Anyway I know this has a -999999999% chance of actually happening but imagine if they made a Green Lantern movie that was fully animated by Ross. That would be truly epic.
Hobos frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread.
Not at all. Alex Ross is a technically proficient artist but a majority of the time it has no sense of movement. In no way would it translate well to animation. For one thing, there's way too much detail.
These Green Lantern shots are the same--impressive and detailed but bland and lifeless, which is a trap that many artists fall into when striving for photorealism since the dawn of painting.
In response to the work itself, this doesn't seem like concept art at all. Maybe they just hired him and he decided they weren't going to use it (how many times have movie studios asked him to contribute designs that never got used?) so he just painted Green Lantern images he could sell later.
