Is the Artifacts: Origins one-shot just collecting the 2 page backups from the series, or is it actual new stuff like the Artifacts 1/2 issue originally planned for FCBD but changed?

Joshua Williamson, the writer, posted that Xenoholics is an ongoing. It looks like an interesting concept; I'll be checking that one out.

...this one-and-done book is the first of three PLUS! stories, will not be collected for over a year, and is intended to have a shelf life of several months.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are they using that it's not going to be collected for a while as a selling point?
