Default CBR: Robinson Traverses Time and Space with "The Shade"

Writer James Robinson spoke with CBR News about "The Shade," a 12-issue maxi-series spotlighting the anti-hero from the pages of "Starman" debuting in October from DC Comics.

This book is weird. never read starman so i hope this can be a nice stating point. Also if this books exists means that starman happened which is turn means that the JSA existed.

    Default Jsa?

This interview was most frustrating because it ignored the enormous elephant in the room. If Starman history is intact, does that mean Superman is NOT the first superhero in the DCnU? Or is this miniseries happening on another earth? I'm sure Robinson couldn't answer this question, but it's frustrating to not have this even addressed.

If I were a new reader I gotta say that I wouldn't give this book a first chance based on the solicitation. It's not really enough information to get me interested.

Very good news to hear that this is coming to life, at last.

And it's always comforting to hear that 6 issues of a 12 issue series (and not even the 1st 6 - Cooke and Thompson's issues) are already done. No delays here.

I think Robinson hitted the right button about some successful characters pushed in on-goings too fast.

I heard a lot about this character (haven't read STARMAN) but there are maybe too many Shades is the DCU and I'd prefer the Ditko' one being the one who sticks..

It's irrelevant if Robinson's claim that the tale stands alone from the rest of the DCU is accurate.

Slade Wilson: I've come to STEAL your babies!

Robinson said that was pretty much the only thing he had to change.
The solicits though did mention the Starman Museum, and DC have said that people with superpowers have operated BEFORE superman, but were viewed with distrusts, so maybe it's semantics?

Interesting interview. The only other thing I wish the interview mentioned if there are any other DC projects that James is writing.

There are only two Shades though- this Shade, which predates the Ditko Shade by 30 years, and Rac Shade. Rac Shade is being combined with Miligan's Shade in Secret Seven.

That's a risky thing to bring up 'round these parts, partner. Many folks here would dip their pitchforks in kerosene and light them at DC HQ's gates at the idea of more DC/non-Starman comics by Jim Robinson these days.

I keep mistaking this character with Shade the Changing Man on a name basis only.

    S.H.A.D.E.

Pretty easy to distinguish between the three. I don't see a problem.
