Son of M was excellent, so was Silent War. The stuff with the inhumans is usually really cool.

    Happy New Year Polaris fans.

Here's wishing 2012 will be a good year for Polaris and that by the end of the year we will be happy with Lorna's development this year :) It's quite exciting because it will be her first year in 5 since being a regular on a title... pretty much the first time since this thread started she's on an ongoing.

2012 will be this threads sixth year. And the 5th anniversary in April. Many great posters have left and we will remember them.

I'm also planning to do a little retrospective on the space arc. Alas it won't be until February as I'm very busy this next month. Though if you guys want we can save it until April to coincide with the 5th and make it a proper event?

Congrats Polaris Thread... I thinkthat makes it almost 18000 posts in total since April 2007.

Her intelligence is always undervalued. Both in handbooks/cards and in characterization.

Writers forget she was partially through a doctorate and has a Masters Degree. That should put her on atleast 4 in my opinion. I hope PAD highlights this aspect of her- he seems the type of writer to remember what is now a detail of continuity.

    Ah wiki has been updated.

Polaris along with Havok are seen joining Wolverine's side due to Polaris wanting to maintain her self away from her father Magneto

Uh, Lorna never said that, just because Wolverine talked about it doesn't mean that was her reason for rejoining X-Factor, but I would expect nothing less from wiki.

From time to time writers remember she is politically smart as DnA did in her interaction with Crystal. That is more fresh in people's mind from Genosha/HoM.

But, its much more rare that writers remember she is actually brilliant in the sciences. One would have to go back to December 2003 to have the last time that part of the character has been shown.

Given it was part of PAD's character in 1991 that she was intelligent, but shy and emotionally damaged that probably won't be forgotten by PAD. If she is brilliant in the sciences on X-Factor or we have more of her political Lorna characterization that remains to be seen.

It was intended to be a three part arc and Hine has said that he intended to get Crystal and Pietro back together and put Pietro on the path to redemption. But, he had the rug pulled out from him so to speak.

I'm sure PAD will do her intelligence justice. From X-Factor 87:

Ah- I love that panel. I forgot that Doc Samson mentioned that she has a high IQ. Her scenes from X-Factor #87 make me more faithful of PAD to characterize her well.

I truly think the DnA's characterization of Lorna was perfect because of that. We saw the best aspects of Lorna all in one.

They certainly got down a great mix of intelligent and political Lorna. There was one area left for me that was missing and that was Lorna the battle-hardened veteran. If you mix Emperor Vulcan or 2004 Austen era veteran warrior Lorna who was enough in control of her emotions in battle with DnA's depiction of her personality and intelligence you would have a depiction of Lorna that is pretty much perfect for me.

I agree with you there- I think if Lorna was explored more we may have seen more of the fighter n her come through in War of Kings, albeit she would've never have had the chance as she was only a supporting character.

Now War of Kings unlike RAFOTSE I wouldn't have minded going 12 issues. That would have given time for the X-Men in space to have a decent battle against the IG and it would have given time for a slower relationship build like many fans wanted. It wouldn't have stopped the yelling of some, but for many it would have.

2009 ended on a very depressing note after Lorna wasn't returned home after WoK and both X-Editorial and the cosmic books editors and writers thought the other had control of the characters. That confusion lasted from June 2009 to January 2010. WATXM and Exiles being pulled also made the end of 2009 quite depressing.

I actually thought War of Kings was a well paced and structured story. The only thing I would change would be better X-Men scenes in #5 and #6. Instead of moping I would've liked them to kick ass.

2009 was like a mini golden age for Lorna. Sat right between 2008 and 2010 in which nothing happened, but times for her peaked in April 2009 if I remember correctly with Exiles #1 and War of Kings #2. It was a very good year to be a Polaris fan.

From the late summer of 2008 to the late summer of 2009 it was great. But, by the fall and winter of 2009 things went to hell after Exiles and WATXM were pulled and it became clear editoral nixed Yost's plans for a mini to bring them home after WoK and then for months and months neither the cosmic books nor the X-books knew who had control of them.

As for War of Kings it had an oversized introductory one shot (so about one and a half pages worth of a comic). Then it had a one shot at the very end WoK WWR to rap things up. That equals about 8 and a half issues worth of comics for the series. They could have done a more with the X-Jammers and the Inhumans at the beginning to introduce them before the wedding which would have limited the screaming about the Lorna/Luna/Crystal stuff. That adds in about an extra issue, then plan out a big battle between the X-Jammers and the Shi'ar/Imperial Guard after Lilandra dies. That would have made Rachel and Alex fans happier for their characters to get some serious pannel time. It would have made me happier as well to see Lorna in battle. Then have a few pages at the very end where the X-Jammers contact Xavier and tell him about Lilandra's death and tell him their plans.

There are a few other things that could be added in like Alex reacting to Vulcan's death. So, by then we are getting close to 12 issues if you merge the beginning one shot and WWR all together into a 12 issue series.

I just happened to find this earlier today.

    http://boardreader.com/thread/The_Po..._9suX824c.html

According to this thing, jmc is the top poster here many times over, followed by me. I didn't think I posted here nearly as much as many others.

Then again, it also claims we've had no activity in the past week and that's just plain wrong.
