Wow, I forgot all about Point. The bar in Chicago I worked at let us drink cheap(er) beers for free and their Point Special was my beer of choice while at the job...



It's nothing special. I mention it more for nostalgia than actual rec. However, I really did like it and would drink it again. It's a crisp clean pilsner that, I swear, had an almost imperceptible taste of purple tootsie-pops on the head (and it wasn't just me that thought this).

I know we got some seasonals of theirs once, maybe on a distributors deal kind of thing, and my memory is telling me that I enjoyed their Amber, too.

I'm a big fan of the beers brewed by Boston Beer Works, especially their Parquet Golden Ale and the Bunker Hill Blueberry.

I've had the red and blue (?). I need to get on the white. I remeber the first time I ever tried Chimay I was on a first date and hadn't heard of the stuff. Had no idea it was premium brew......till I got the bill and it was $96.

That sounds rather high. How many did you have?

The one Belgian beer I really want to try is Westvleteren 12; has anyone had that? I also want to try Rochefort 10, which my local store supposedly has, but they're always out of it.

I have no idea. It was 2 or 3 years ago. 4 or 5 (?) plus whatever she was drinking, but the bill was just shocking because usually 4 or 5 beers and a few for a friend don't hit that amount.

A few of the bars around here stock Chimay. $9 a bottle. Good stuff though. I remember a distinct sweet apple flavor.
Hopefully your date was worth the $96 tab. :)

Friends don't let friends use the phrase "premium brew".

We prefer the term "spendy beer".

I think it's because the brewery keeps a fairly low profile. They have chain of their own pubs in England and only sell their own products at a very cheap price (about £1.50 a pint). Unfortunately, because it's cheap they attract a certain clientele.

i.e. me.

The pubs they've got in London are usually very nice old pubs.

Except, at the moment, the Covent Garden one, which is run by a pair of homophobic twonks who are suffering from a bit of a protest right now.
