I was just thinking about "Purple Rain." It is definitely a good song, but it occurred to me that it might best be appreciated by future generations, since I can't help but think of how omnipresent that song was during the mid-80s and that knowledge/memory definitely affects my view of the song.
Once a song gets played to an nth degree, your reaction to the song really becomes how you experienced it and not the song itself. I presume over time that could change, but it is over 25 years later and I still can't separate "Purple Rain" from how it was part of a practical avalanche of that album.
Are there any songs that have that effect for you?
