I am just getting into Marvel, and Spider-Man books and thought about checking out the Avengers but I am mixed up with the different titles and also read some blogs that stated Spider-Man was barely in the Avenger books?
Also, how big a roll does Tony Stark have?

Well Iron Man is a founding member of the Avengers while Tony Stark was a financial supporter back when nobody knew Tony Stark was Iron Man so a big roll. While Spider-man was a recent addition, his roll is comic relieve but it might change if they decide to expand Spider-man roll.

To answer the question a bit seriously, Spiderman's been in Avengers for a while now (in both the Avengers and New). He gets plenty of lines, considering it's a team book. If you're a Spiderman fan I think he's in FF right now and it's a smaller team so maybe check that out, too.
For Avengers, there's 2 main books and 2 side-books. Secret is more about Captain America, Academy is a "teaching kids to be Avengers" kinda thing (though it's awesome and everyone should read it), and Avengers/New Avengers are the Avengers. They're not that different except for having different characters.
Iron Man is "leader" in Avengers right now (not New). If you really like him try his solo though.
Avengers have a lot of people so it's hard to say that Spiderman or Iron Man have really big roles...Last edited by Swie; 07-03-2011 at 03:09 PM.

Well the way I see it Spider-man in Avengers is portrayed as the comic relief but in his own title when the Avengers and New appear they operate as an experienced team even consulting him when they face his enemies.
