Superman Returns had the makings of a great game, but they were rushed and failed in execution.
Flying is the best in any game I've played, but the rest of the game was dull and the fact that it was tied to the abyssmal movie storyline just made it painful.
The Death and Return of Superman (on Sega Genesis and SNES) was a good game.
So, he put a game on the seven worst games list, and then said the game was good.
You should probably not do that, doesn't make a lot of sense.

I don't think I've ever encountered a good Superman game.
I can't say Superman Returns was bad but it felt like it could have been a lot better.
The one thing that really cheesed me off was flying at Super-speed and running straight into a building![]()
I agree. The game they included and said was good was actually quite good. I used to spend hours in the arcade playing that game. Also, the sole complaint the author has about the game, that it included a duplicate red Superman and how that made no sense...there actually was a famous Superman story in the past that had a red Superman so it isn't that nonsensical...

Wow, even reading that article was as boring as the games seem to have been. :-/
The problem with the Atari Superman game had nothing with what to do. The problem was that it was multidirectional scroller, which meant you had a 4 x 4 grid you could fly diagonally off one end and come up the other with — that was repeated beneath with the subway. So flying got boring pretty quickly.
Otherwise, for its time, it was pretty enjoyable. And the arcade game was a lot of fun, so I don't consider that a misstep either.
I hated the Atari Superman game blargh i still have nightmares about flying around and around not knowing what to do.
Star Raiders, Raiders of the Lost Ark, boith swordquest games, ET, Mountain King.
They weren't like that, but they were pretty much impossible for a kid to figure out without the manual, and sometimes with the manual.
Games were really abstract by then, they couldn't do a tutorial because they didn't have space, i get that, but it doesn't make them any better.
