Excellent write-up. The 2000AD material doesn't get nearly enough coverage in the US - and with the new TPBs and HCs coming out from Rebellion there is a treasure trove of material to discover.
couldn't say better about SLAINE, you absolutely didn't forget anything..
I'll still looking after MARSHALL LAW issues then..
(a..Sam Kieth onto ROBOTMAN or a DOOM PATROL title, anyone ?..)

I just got the Horned God hardcover a few weeks ago. I'm not usually a fan of painted work, but Bisely's work isn't like the usual painted stuff. It's exciting and kinetic. The opposite of the work of guys like Alex Ross.
I haven't read any of Marshal Law, but I'd rather wait for some collected form to come out. I'll wait for this omnibus you mentioned or some smaller collections, whichever comes first.

Gorgeousaur - patience is for the weak! You are way better off immediately diving into the back issue bins (most of this stuff can be found at conventions for $1 or less) or heading over to eBay. Marshal Law Takes Manhattan, a standalone one-shot and the second Marshal Law story, is a great way to dip your toe in to see if you like the bloody water. It's basically Marshal Law going after analogues of the entire Marvel Universe. Kingdom of the Blind is another spiffy one-shot where he goes after a Batman analogue.
But, yeah, Slaine is super awesome.
If you suggested that to me two years ago I'd have done so without hesitation (using eBay, I live 5 hours away from the closest convention I know about), but I'm tired of needing to crawl and dig through longboxes and taking them out and putting them back in little plastic bags to reread what I want and finding safe places for stuff that's not in the standard format.

The good stuff can be found in 2 trades (Fear & Loathing and Blood Sweat & Fears) and one squarebound one-shot (Marshal Law Takes Manhattan). No floppies necessary!
That's a compelling review. I'm tempted to check it out, even though my first dip into Sláine with "Warrior's Dawn" wasn't the best. In fact, I couldn't get through the whole thing.
re: Marshall Law
Pat Mills was heavily hinting about 6 months ago that they were in negotiations for DC to rerelease it, and if Kevin ever became free from his LoEG duties maybes some new stuff . . . Bleeding Cool also picked up on it, but with DC's recent shake up who can tell if they will . . .
Asute observation regarding Bisley. His work in the ealry part of the 90's was full of a frantic energy that he no longer brings to the page. I don't think the BIZ as we know him really came into being until about midway through this series, the latter half has some of the best painted sequential art I'd ever seen in a comic.
Boy do I miss that Doom patrol judgment on Gotham heavy metal era of the BIZ. Why did he ever stop eating his Wheaties.
