Nice! My fave Reagan Youth song would be Degenerated i think, off "A Collection of Pop Classics'. The nice thing about those hardcore bands is that their entire discography fits on a single CD!

Avengers is more fun than you think it is. And probably needs the big screen. Its strength lies in its spectacle. But oh what a spectacle.

I suggest you all go watch it, even the cranky ones who haven't gone to a movie in years.

Seen it 2x so far...IMAX was a blast.

Anyone else cashing in? My dealer and I ordered 400 HCs and TPBs and we've moved 288 so far...not bad after only 3 days. We should be sold out by next weekend.

And give money to Marvel & its corporate overlord, the Iron Maus?

When monkeys fly (without the involvment of Margaret Hamilton or dr chimp, that is).

I wound ujp watching I Melt with You (decent story, killer soundtrack, ranging frm "Pretty Vacant" to "Nag Nag Nag"), Antichrist (some riveting scenes, but in general ... zzzzzzz; I got a lot more out of von Trier's Melancholia last weekend), Enter Nowhere (very likable) & Tokyo Gore Police (vaguely reminisent of what Robocop might've been like if everyone involved had been ingesting copious amounts of acid).

I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

I was supposed to go see Avengers Friday but every theater in town showing it was sold out. Every show. As it was yesterday. And today. We're going to try for a matinee on Thursday. I can't not see this one!

Online advance ticket sales have really altered the moviegoing experience and not necessarily for the better.

I liked both Melancholia and Antichrist. The latter I found quite intense, wasn't bored at all.

Although I must say that Willem Dafoe, whom I used to like, is starting to get on my nerves a bit. Not so much in this movie, though, or at least, when he did, it seemed it might be appropriate for the character.

You a Gaspar Noé fan at all, Dan? I haven't seen Enter Nowhere, but the title reminded me of Noé's last one, "Enter the Void".

I saw I Melt With You on netflix esterda and the snopsis sounded prett interesting, but I opted to watch Carnival of Souls and Planet of the Vampires. The former was great for an old horror flick and the latter was bad even for a b movie.

Once more, I weep for the younger generation.

Sorry dan I like camp science fiction/horror, just not this particular movie. And I am not sure that I have seen another movie of Mario Bava's. I watched it cause I read the comic ... by Atlas I think. Anyway I really did enjoy Carnival of Souls, though I am still unsure what I am suppose to conclude about Mary Ann's limbo there in the movie, once you see the car finally dragged out of the lake.

Edit: Wow he has done quite a lot of movies.

Edit: Netflix has Black Sabbath and Hercules in the Haunted World. I think I'll watch one of them today before I sleep.

Probably just the mood I was in. In the case of Melancholia, it probably helped that I could (unfortutunately) identify with Kirsten Dunst's intense depression ... with Antichrist, not so much as regards Charlotte Gainsbourg's proclivities for mutilating herself & Dafoe. Or, at least, not this weekend; maybe later. (The fact that the unfortunate-looking Gainsbourg's face kept reminding me of H.P. Lovecraft's was sort of distracting as well. Thank god that her & the even more unfortunate-looking Dafoe's spawn didn't live -- in that sense, I suppose, the movie was a real pick-me-up.)

(Speaking of distracting, in Melancholia the fact that everyone in Dunst's family except her spoke with a British accent was rather off-putting. Second time I've run into that in about a month -- see also Pierce Brosnan & Matt Frewer, who play brothers, in the adapation of Stephen King's Bag of Bones.)

You a Gaspar Noé fan at all, Dan? I haven't seen Enter Nowhere, but the title reminded me of Noé's last one, "Enter the Void".
That's the only one of his I've seen. (Looking at his photo just now on IMDb, I see that he could almost pass for a clone of Grant Morrison's & Brian Bendis' ... & I suppose Michael Berryman's & Billy Corgan's. Uh-oh). I found it pretty tedious as well over the long haul, though again with some striking scenes. At least, though, the brother & sister sound like they came from the same planet (to the extent that Paz de laHuerta is capable of sounding like someone without severe brain damage, no matter what character she's portraying ... in this case, at least, that was rather appropriate).

"Camp" has become an extremely nebulous term & concept the further we get from the mid-'60s, to the point that at this late date it's probably close to meaningless, but even so I'd suggest that it has about as much to do with Planet of the Vampires as I do with jazz.

And I am not sure that I have seen another movie of Mario Bava's. I watched it cause I read the comic ... by Atlas I think.
With which it has about as much to do, IIRC, as the MacNee-Rigg Avengers the Marvel comic.

Off the top of my head, I'd say his materpieces, at least that I've seen, are Black Sunday & Kill Baby Kill. Memory tells me (perhaps incorrectly) that he also had an uncredited role in shaping the very engaging Caltiki, the Immortal Monster, which hekped warped my young mind circa 3rd grade when I caught a good chunk of it on the after-school "Dialing for Dollars" movie out of Shreveport.

Lost out on a hardcover Marvel Masterworks: Doctor Strange Vol. 1 today on eBay. I want the silver covered, hardback edition to go with the other volumes that I own, but it's out of print and as a result, it commands silly prices on eBay. I mean, I've seen it go for over a hundred pounds, but usually it's more like £60 or £70. Personally, I refuse to pay that much for it, but I'm willing to go up to £45 or £50. However, I loose out time and again, when a copy comes up for sale on eBay. It kinda makes me wonder if I'll ever get a copy...sorry, I'm just feeling down after yet again missing out on the book.

It's annoying when you're looking to complete a collection, but the price of the books you're missing prohibit it.
    MY PULL LIST
All-Star Western • Avenging Spider-Man • Hit-Girl • Lady Mechanika • Road To Oz • Sherlock Holmes: The Liverpool Demon • Superior Spider-Man • Star Wars • Star Wars: Dark Times

Dan have you seen Twitch of the Death Nerve? Wiki speaks highly of it claiming it's great influence on the slasher horror flicks. If it were a good film I'd like to track it down and watch it.

I haven't ... though I think I own it on VHS under the title Bay of Blood. I've actually seen very, very little giallo, & for that matter not a whole lot of slasher stuff.
