Yeah, love Blondie. A truly great singles band, although of their albums, Parallel Lines is also well worth searching out. Also, their drummer really doesn't get his due...he's excellent.

Blondie were great. I don't know Debbie Harry's solo work but still regret not seeing her perform at a local club here in Ottawa back in the early 90s, I think it was.

If I'd had to stick to the NL, my choice would've been between Scott Rolen, who I swear must be about as old as I am, & Jerry Hairston, who's day-to-day himself.

Speaking of bands from the NY scene (I strongly second Confessor's endorsement of Parallel Lines for the would-be Blondie connoisseur; its 2 predecessors are also pretty strong, & follow-up Eat to the Beat is sharp as well), sad to see that the Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has died. I wasn't a huge fan, but they were cool.

I'm pretty sure I came across the "Cooky Puss" 12" at the Tower Records off the Arizona St. campus in the early '80s & paid no attention to it, though probably I would have if I'd realized one of 'em had been in the Young & the Useless. Around three years later, I was happy to buy Licensed to Ill at Sears (which was still carrying vinyl in '86) in Little Rock.

Likewise, I wasn't a huge fan either, but I did like them. I bought Licensed to Ill back in 1986 and loved it for a season, but then soon forgot it. It wasn't until the '90s that I reconnected with the band due to great singles like "Sabotage" and "Intergalatic". Today, I still have Licensed to Ill and the compilation Solid Gold Hits in my record collection.

Took my girls to FCBD. They enjoyed it and we picked up some fun free books. The big news that I learned from it is that my shop is hosting a Berni Wrightson signing next week! I know he is there to promote his new book, but would it be uncouth to bring one of my old Swamp Thing books for him to sign? I've actually never been to a pro signing event before.

Never been to a comics signing, either, but I can't imagine that bringing old stuff for Wrightson to sign would be considered "uncouth" in any way. My impression is that such an approach is pretty common .. though if I'm wrong, I'm sure plenty of people here have been to comparable events & will let you know.

when i was 16 i had a family holiday in Bulgaria where i listened to eastern european bootlegs on 'tape cassette' of Check Your Head and Ill Communication all summer. Ahh those were the days. those were their best 2 albums as well IMO.

they were also the band that introduced me to american hardcore as well, (bands like Reagan Youth and Minor Threat..mainly through the punk tracks on those 2 albums and subsequently the Cookie Puss E.P.

i also used to get their Grand Royal magazine in the 90's. that was a pretty wacky publication.

Two bands I saw back in '83 (in Tucson) & '84 (at the Rock Against Reagan gig in Dallas, outside the arena where the senile old fiend was receiving the nomination for his re-election; an utterly unknown folkie named Michelle Shocked opened the show, while BGK, Cause for Alarm & the DKs played later), respectively. Reagan Youth I took photos of.
