So I'm just randomly going through the singles of Eric B and Rakim (having previously only been exposed to Rakim through Truth Hurts' 'Addictive'), and I can't believe how many lyrics of them were borrowed later by others... 'pump up the volume', 'it's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you, without a strong rhyme to step to', 'serious as cancer', 'make 'em clap to this'...
Also, it's something of a trip, really enjoying it. I only ever listened to contemporary hiphop that was on the radio from about '92 onward, and no one ever plays Eric B & Rakim anymore, so...
EDIT: Okay, and I just learned that the first line of Rakim's guest verse on 'Addictive', ('Thinking up a master plan...') is a shout out to an older song of his, 'Paid In Full'.Last edited by Mormel; 07-23-2012 at 01:47 PM.
