    Sometimes life is good.

I picked this up in my LCS today for 40% off the euro cover price (and like MartinNL's shop, USD = euro).

Why does this happen? To cover import costs or something? Will the store accept USD?

I must be the only person in the world who didn't like Sandman. The Absolute was amazing, and got me buying more in that format, I just didn't like the book apart from the 19th(?) issue which riffed Midsummer Nights dream.

I dunno, I'll have to ask ;) It's actually pretty good compared to most other shops I visit, where they add like 10% to the cover price. It's still ridiculous but what can you do? Only thing you can do is order online, but the number of online shops that offer good discounts are very limited when you take into consideration that the books have to be shipped also. You guys in the US are so lucky!

I had the same issue when the first 3 volumes came out, then I got a really great pre-order deal on vol. 4... once that arrived at my door I was in love. Within a month I'd picked up the rest.

Moral of the story - stop procrastinating!

Its not that I don't want them, its just they've been in print for how long and have had how many reprints that I have little fear that they'll go oop so they're pretty low on my to get list....plus there's 6 books to get which is 300+

Just ordered the Stormwatch HC, I love Authority/Planetary so interested to see how it started. Those pics a few pages back certainly helped me decide haha.

That's Europe for you. Let's say a book is 100 USD in the US. Here it's first converted into 100 EUR, and the the store adds a percentage. Thus a US 100 USD book can be 124 EUR here. It's nuts.

Similar to here, US price is doubled then 25-40% added on to get the NZ retail price. Its pretty crazy some of the prices I've seen tbh

In the case of Ireland the distributors have additional shipping costs, because the shipments are from Diamond US to Diamond UK and then distributed to shops in Ireland and the UK. My suggestion that books destined for Irish shops be parachuted out of the plane as it passes overhead hasn't gained any traction yet .

Plus the market here is much smaller, with 8 shops on the entire island of Ireland. And in general, commercial rents, wages etc are higher in Ireland than the EU average. So a retailer needs to factor all of that in, as well as some element of profit, when pricing a book.

Now you can see why the Bookdepository 10% discounts are such a big deal for us

I liked the first two arcs of sandman, but didn't really like the rest. Felt the other arcs/issues to be long and kind of boring.
