In particular, I wonder how likely it is for a Northlanders Absolute to come out. Want to get into the series, but would so prefer to have a nicer version to read.

We will probably never see a Northlanders come out in an Absolute edition. I believe the series was cancelled and is being wrapped up currently. At best they would release it in deluxe editions, but even that is unlikely.

Out of what you listed I think the most likely would be Ex Machina, but I don't think even that has enough praise/sales to gain the Absolute treatment (and was just released in deluxe). As someone said earlier sales and critical appraise are the biggest things for the Absolutes. This is especially true for the vertigo stuff.

Seems logical enough, but then you have something like Superman: For Tomorrow getting an Absolute, and apart from the stunning art, I've heard the story is pretty terrible.

Maybe it's only me, but i think with absolute editions the art is more important, at least profits art from these oversized editions more than the story itself.

I actually have the absolute edition from Superman For Tomorrow and i agree, the story isn't so great in the end. But it's drawn by Jim Lee, that's why i bought it in this format.

Don't get me wrong, I agree, art should come first in an Absolute. And while Jim Lee may have a few questionable designs in the DCnU but he's easily one of the best artists out there. But I still think there are much more worthy stories than For Tomorrow. For such a pricey item, you'd think it should be a very well rounded package in like Kingdom Come or The Long Halloween.

Can anyone who follows DC trade gossip and/or understands their collection release schedules comment/predict if Lucifer is going to see Deluxe collection anytime in the near future?

Also, are Vertigo TPBs typically a higher quality than general DC TPBs - say, Batman Hush? I've generally found DC's paper lacking - too thin and high gloss.

They are typically of equal or lower quality.

DC should put out Deluxe Hardcovers more quickly like Image does.

I still think its a wasted opportunity to NOT put Batman: Year One in Absolute Edition alongside Dark Knight Returns. Did anybody REALLY prefer that over Dark Knight Strikes Again!? All that great Mazzechelli artwork in oversized edition, a perfect beginning of the Batman followed by a perfect ending with Dark Knight Returns.

    Blargh.

Do so in time for the new animated movie makes particular sense.

Thanks! That makes my decision a lot easier to go ahead an buy Northlanders in the regular trades, since I was waiting out a HC. I will do that this weekend.

Another one that would be amazing would be Scalped. Such beautiful art would really look amazing in an oversized absolute.

The Deluxe editions of Y and X-Machina aren't bad, nice price point in particular, but no comparison to the absolutes.

Has there been any word on an Absolute Final Crisis?

None. I'm not exactly sure if one will be released either. It's not exactly a universally acclaimed story.

It's about guaranteed Justice League, Batman Inc and Green Lantern will get hardcover treatments.

I just hope they support their other titles too like Batgirl, Catwoman, Red Hood, Nightwing and Supergirl with hardcover bindings.

Hell, Justice League and Action will most likely get deluxe treatment.

I couldn't agree more, Year One was the perfect choice.
