Default DC & Vertigo Hardcover Discussion Thread (Absolutes, Omnibuses, Deluxes, etc)

Welcome to the DC Hardcover discussion thread! Feel free to post here with any questions or comments about DC's, Vertigo's, or Wildstorm's range of Absolutes, Omnibus, Deluxe editions, etc. Pics of your collection of every Absolute DC has ever published are also welcome (but obviously not obligatory)!

Here is what DC & Vertigo has scheduled for release, as per the official solicits. I'll regularly update this to remove old releases and add in new solicits, and include anything I forgot. Books marked with an asterisk (*) are regular sized. (W) denotes the writer(s), and (A) denotes the penciller(s)/artist(s).

    FORMAT SIZES (approx)
    Regular sized hardcovers are 26.5cm x 17.5cm.
    Deluxes and Omnibuses are 28.2cm x 19cm.
    Absolutes are 31.5cm x 21cm, and the slip cases are 32.5cm x 21.5cm.

Coming Soon - announced by DC, but not yet solicited. Click here.

The Geoff Johns Omnibus was (not anymore, sorry!) over 50% discount on Amazon.com, it packs 560 pages which is an improvement from it's mere 320 page context at first, they need to fix this with Johns upcoming Hawkman Omnibus too that is only 320 pages. Gotta say i feel lucky for ordering it.

I certianly hope we will get more Omnibuses/Hardcovers of stuff like Alan Grant/Norm Breyfogle Batman and John Byrne Superman.

I am mostly a Marvel kind of guy but starting to swing into some DC collections.

I have New Teen Titans and Teen Titans Omnibuses pre-ordered along with Absolute Batman Hush

To bad prices are back to normal on Amazon as they had Absolute Batman Hush for $40 (now $62). Teen Titans Omnibus was at $34.99 (now $47.25).

Looking at Green Lantern Omnibus next.

Also, anyone know what the other volumes of Flash omnibus will entail. On the inside cover of the GJ Flash it says its volume 1 of flash books.

DC: Batman and related, Green Lantern, The Flash, etc
Omnibus wishlist: Classic Deadpool, Pak Hulk, Spider-Man 2099

Snapped one up just last week on eBay.

Arrived slightly damaged but I guess there's not much that can be done about that.

I'm a DC dabbler (as opposed to a Marvel zombie), and I can't decide how I feel about their Absolutes.

I picked up Sandman Absolute #1, and was obsessed. It's a thing of beauty. So I bought #2 - twice - and both copies had crappy binding.

Meanwhile, I wanted my two favorite DC stories ever (Crisis and Watchmen) in Absolute, but the meager 12-issue runs didn't seem to warrant the huge cost considering the inconsistent quality. Also, \with Marvel I'm used to paying just over $2.25 per collected issue, so the smaller DC Absolutes seem like utter robbery (especially if the quality might be low).

So where do you come down on Absolute quality? Are my crap Sandman #2s a fluke? Or, must the buyer beware on all DC hardbounds? DC dedicated fans, I need your advice.

(PS: I'm all for a Morrison Batman Omni - I really want to check out the story, but there's no way I'm hunt-and-pecking for all of those TPBs.)

I had two Absolutes (Hush and COIE) and I thought they both were produced extremely well, really to the highest quality. I'm guessing either you bought bad copies or have unrealistic standards or something.

I got rid of both of them because I found that I never really felt like physically reading them. They are produced immaculately well and are just gorgeous, but they're kind of unwieldy to hold and literally read for a while. They feel more like collector's items than anything else.

In regards to the Morrison TPBs, do you mean that you just don't want to buy that many TPBs? Because they are all in print and should be easy to find at a LCS or bookstore.

My Absolutes collection, also used to have V for Vendetta and Sandman Volume 1.

Love this format, I'm also glad they are reprinting some of them end of the year. I usually lurk the Marvel HC thread but I do collect from both companies so looking forward to some mint DC shelf porn being posted.

Absolute Crisis comes with a second book about Crisis itself and how DC set it up, plus other things. The book is pretty big- I think around 100 pages or so? It's not just Crisis, so it's worth the pricetag IMO.
