Really great interview.
I especially love what he said about Stormwatch "always" being in the DCU.
People need to get it in their heads that this is the DCU now, and it has a history that assumes that it's always been this way.

I really can't wait. My only hesitation initially was regarding Apollo and Midnighter's closet status (in or out), and since that's cleared up I'm ready for this to ship. Now.
He's the kind of guy who would leave you in a k-hole to go play Halo in the other room
even I, too, was confused by his "Stormwatch has always been in the DCU" thing, but I think I get it... >_>
Anyway, this was easily one of my top 3 or 5 anticipated books. And still is.![]()

Grant Morrison
LOL I forgot about that! He recounted that story in Bristol last year and we all laughed. The woman is obviously a jinxWhen my wife said to me about taking over "Action," "Well they can't cancel that, can they?" what little did she know?.
I'm very much looking forward to this. It's one of those books that has the right creative team, with the right characters and just feels... right. The only thing I'd change is getting Midnighter back into his original outfit or something like it, but I'll get over it if they don't.
My comic collection. Go on, have a look. You know you want to.

The more I hear about Cornell's Stormwatch, the more I'm looking forward to cracking open the 1st issue
Man, Cornell said all the right things here.
1. It feels to me like he really understands the underpinning of these characters. Not just as individuals - his take on Hawksmoore sounds right on - but about how characters in that universe should 'work'. The romantic, vague nature of their power sets, which is why someone like Apollo stood out so completely.
2. It seems like he's folding in a bit of Planetary or SHIELD into the Stormwatch book. I'm guessing that, like Hickman's SHIELD, it's going to be an organization that existed in some form or another for centuries as a secret society, Freemasons style, and that the current incarnation is just the newest manifestation of that. I quite like that aspect of Planetary - the secret history of the world - and to a lesser extent in SHIELD (which has gotten recursive and over the top to the point of inanity, IMHO) so I'm excited to see it played with by a more character focused writer like Cornell.
It feels like he understands the tone, the characters, the concepts, how inextricable they are from the entire Ellis milieu, and that he'll be channeling that. I'm quite excited. Big concept, high octane, character illuminating stuff, with new characters and a new history. A true world building experience, within the DCU. Brilliant.
One thing that worries me slightly is the 'reflecting things happening in other books'. I don't want too much of that by any means.

Boy, 100% agreed on that outfit.
I'm not a big costume guy. It's by no means going to ruin the book for me, and I haven't cared about any of the redesigns because they're mostly fine (neither better nor worse, to me).
But this one is ATROCIOUS. Good GOD please change that.

Glad this was already on my list of to buy
Cornell keeps talking about Hawksmoor being on the cover, but he's wearing basically the same thing as Apollo

Top 3: Batman, Wonder Woman, X-force
The cover we have seen is not the actual cover... It was a cover done for solicitation purposes only...
