Default My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

I discovered this show through, of all places, the WrestleCrap forums (now the FAN forums), which are filled with bronies.

You need to watch this if you haven't given it a try, seriously. It's well-written and often very funny. If you don't get The Hub, all of the episodes from the first season are up on YouTube. I personally recommend starting not with the pilot (which IMO is good but not the very best), but with "Sonic Rainboom", "Dragonshy", "Feeling Pinkie Keen" or "Bridle Gossip".
"His name is Kettch, and he's an Ewok."
    "No."
"Oh yes. Determined to fight. You should hear him say 'Yub, yub.' He makes it a battle cry."

Stumbled over it and mainlined the whole thing a couple of weekends ago. Quite amusing, even if half the main cast managed at least one full-blown psychotic break this season alone.

You best not be trollin'. This show has been a troll's dream in other forums.

It's also legitimately popular. Most of the "bronies" aren't trolls. It's a fun show.

I'm not a brony, but the MLP movie trailer mashups on Youtube are made of pure win, so I appreciate that this show exists just for those.

I'm a brony on the down low. I'll never admit it to anyone I know personally but yeah I'm a fan.

Honestly, I tried to get into the show to see what all the fuss was about. I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't for me.

Let's just say that I'm enough of a fan to have a favourite Pony.

Default My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Thread

    Hello everypony.

I figured since I didn't find a mega-thread for the topic maybe I'd make one. Never bothered making dedicated topic threads before in the past but I figure I'd give it a shot for this show.

Well, for starters I'm a recent brony, which to my knowledge is simply a guy who has begun and has come to like MLP:FIM. Boy was it hard to admit that to myself, I actually tried to watch the first episode of the series a long while back but quickly dismissed it because I thought the art-style too childish if not irritatingly cute. However about 3 weeks ago I gave it another shot. Over the course of 2 days with the help of Youtube, I watched every episode presently available in addition to tons of related fan made videos and I loved every second of it.

What a departure from what I had presumed was another love sick girly cartoon show. I laughed at so many moments during the first and second season that I in hindsight can't remember ever laughing so much at a cartoon. There were all the normal jokes, puns, wild gags, as well as pop cultural references, things that I immediately picked up on. They even poked fun at themselves sometimes.

While I do like all the characters to some degree, Rarity and Pinkie Pie are my absolute favorite ponies. Pinkie Pie because out of all of them she is the most self aware of the ponies, she knows this is a TV show and will sometimes break the fourth wall to remind us that she knows it. Shes also the most hyper and cheery of the group and in one particular episode possibly insane. Shes also the one that seems to utilize the most toon logic/physics out of the main 6, sometimes called the mane 6 by fans.

Then there is Rarity, the one pony who'd you would think would be the least likable based on her model and personality. Shes prissy, can be pretty self absorbed at times and pretty forceful. Yet despite that shes exactly what makes a lot of her appearances funny. Her reaction to many of shows plots and situations that she and the other ponies get into is pretty funny. She can also kick butt when it comes down to it.

That's another thing about the show, there is a surprising amount of action in it. Whether it be rivalries, or actual quest/missions, these ponies don't set around and just talk about drama they go out and get their hooves dirty.

Fan works: The fans of this show have made some really cool stuff, and that kind of scares me. I've been into comic books and anime for a lot longer than this show has been out but the stuff the fans of this show have made easily beats the stuff out of the majority of fan made things for other shows that I've also liked. Fighting Games with totally original sprites, music, stages based off the show. O_o tons of artwork and show inspired videos, the list goes on and on.

Rogue and Bishop's daughter would be called Discharge, and she'd touch people and drain all or some of their bioelectrical energy out of them causing them to either die or fall unconscious. She could then use this energy to extend her own life, heal herself, enhance her physical abilities (speed, strength, stamina,) or discharge it as various energy beams.

Finally, a Pony thread! There is a Pony thread round here but it's lumped together with Transformers and G.I Joe. To my recollection, no Pony discussion ever took take in it.

Pinkie is my favorite as well. I've always liked Pinkie but the Party of One episode sealed the deal for me. Knowing she was that crazy how can I not love her?

I haven't dived into fan created stuff. The Epic meal time spoof is as far I went. The value community (Team Fortress 2 specifically) has done some stuff. Be warned, most of it is eerie.

I've seen this pony stuff happen on other boards. I'm still not sure whether it's an elaborate joke or not.

It's a well animated, well written kid's show. SOme are probably pretending to be into it for a laugh but plenty aren't. It's a pretty solid cartoon all things considered, and I won't pretend that it's not.

    Fluttershy is best pony.
