Default If a book didn't get a #1, is it gone?

Perhaps this is obvious, or already been covered, but if a book is not in the list of new #1's, has it been cancelled? That would mean no more Power Girl, Superman/Batman, Xombi, The Spirit, Adventure Comics just to name a few!

It means none of those books right now. That doesn't mean they'll never be around again though. I suspect DC has withheld a few key characters/titles (JSA etc.) in order to have something to hype up when some of this relaunch inevitably gets cancelled.

Well probably for the time being. Every book from September forward will be a new book with a new number one. If Adventure Comics comes out agian in three or four months its going to have a #1.

But I could see them also choosing to hold some characters and material back a couple of months/years in order to establish their core properties. For instance, if they are going to bring in the JSA it is possible that they want to tie it to the old pre crisis alternate earth version. And if they do that it might be a good idea to get this new Justice League and all the characters that come with it on a nice solid foundation before they bring in such a unique concept. Same with Powergirl.

I'm positive they are holding stuff back.

It has already been announced Batman, Inc. is coming back in 2012, and I very much doubt they are killing of the JSA, it's just too classic. Now I could see the JSA having possible new members, but the team will not be gone for good.

You can forget about JSA for the near future. Didio has said they're "resting" the concept. I think the soonest you'll see JSA, or indeed Power Girl as titles will be after Multiversity. Likely 2013 or later. Titles like Zatanna are likely also dead for the time being, though that might become a replacement title if the new line-up does worse than they expected.

Hmm, I figured JSA would maybe be rested for about a year, then they bring it in to replace a book that gets canceled after 12 issues. So I was thinking JSA late 2012.

I agree with you though about Power Girl and Zatanna, that it will probably be a while before they get their own book. Especially so with Power Girl, I know she is popular, but I think DC will ride the Superman/Supergirl/Superboy train as long as they can. Combined with Action Comics, I think adding a 5th Supes title would be a bit ambitious at this time.

I think they'll stick with these initial 52 titles for the first few months, then cancel whatever doesn't sell and bring in some new books in spring of 2012.

i just read in another thread that Batman Odyssey will continue in october. It's of course only a mini series, but for some reason that gives me hope for xombi. Seems in september they will only launch #1 issues, but maybe in october we see more clearly if really all other books are cancelled for good. Don't have much hope for Zatanna or JSA though.

Gone for now, maybe. But few titles are gone for good in comics. Just look at Adventure- cancelled around 1982, brought back in 2009, 27 years later.

They might, but looming over that whole thing is the lawsuit. PG might be ideally placed to take advantage of that, being rarely explicitly linked to the Superman mythos these days--and the only member of the Superman Family who doesn't wear the "S" or have Super in her name. A way for DC to have their Kryptonian cake and eat it too...

Gail Simone has already stated that there is more coming beyond the September releases, and that just because a character isn't visible in September, that doesn't mean they're not coming soon.

Adventure Comics is basically now DC Comics Presents, but, yeah, the other four titles you list (in addition to the likes of Secret Six and Zatanna) are pretty much gone for the foreseeable future.

I expect Justice Society to be back in some shape or form within a year, though. Probably as a result of Morrison's upcoming Multiversity.
