They aired the season and then scrapped it for this show.

I liked the last two episodes. The goofiness calmed down a bit (it was Spider-Man level goofy) and there were fewer "talking to the camera" moments, especially in the Hulk episode. Anyway, this show is getting better and is showing more and more promise every episode.
Um...the entire Hulk episode was Spider-Man talking to a camera.

USM has been just barely interesting enough to keep me watching (though the Hulk episode was boring as hell, and annoying to watch), but it's nowhere near SSM level. I know the show is for kids, but this show feels like it's targeted toward stupid kids.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. Joe Quesada is the reverse King Midas.

Which is totally why he brought Marvel back from bankruptcy and turned it into the largest comic company ever.

I did like this show to begin with but as for now I really don't know. That Hulk episode was great as for the venom one? Ugh...Mediocre at best. I think that the real problem with this show is that Ultimate Spider-man has a lot of great things going for it but always gets brought down by the over the top 4th walls and lame jokes. I do find my self laughing at some but most the time they always fail. The good things this show has is that the show is really bringing out the fun that is spider-man. Since the Avengers has come out they decide to put the Hulk as a guest star. Good idea! Next episode we're getting a Thor and Loki team up. Good idea! Not to forget that we're also getting a Wolverine episode coming out as well. Good idea!

As silly as this show might be it's smart enough to least come out with good episodes but the problem is is that these upcoming epic's with most likely be brought down due to the show's flaws...which we all by know now what flaws those are.

However though it's actually not the stupid jokes that I must dislike about the show, or the 4th walll breaking either. It's that this show doesn't in any way show what I love about Spider-man. I grew with a Peter Parker who always had the Parker luck to deal with as well as bill's and money. Where's the love for the character? Where's what made Spider-man such a great character in the first place? But as well as that I also liked a Spider-man who was always making jokes. This show understands that part of the character very well and makes Spidey very fun to watch but instead goes way too far and so because of this this cartoon doesn't even have any drama or character growth at all.

Don't get me wrong. I don't completely hate this cartoon like most people do, it's just a complete mixed bag to be quite honest.
Peter Parker + ' 'with great power there must also come great responsibility '' = Spider-man

    Wow those hacks:

What will they next blatantly rip-off from Spectacular and make such an inferior incarnation of it?

I never really liked Spectacular Spider-Man. I thought it was kinda bland, and nothing really interested me. When I heard last year that it was cancelled to make Ultimate Spider-Man, I was beyond thrilled. Anticipation for the show arose at the most unexpected times in the most unexpected situations. This was going to be THE show. But... I have been severely disappointed. I keep watching them, waiting for them to be good, but they just... aren't. Why is it even called "Ultimate"? Nothing has actually translated from Ultimate Spider-Man into this. What the hell...? I tried watching them again, and found myself getting angry at Peter in one of the first episodes. He was complaining that the other heroes were cutting in on his personal time, and that his family and friends were really important and the time he spends with them is important, but they are barely ever mentioned. MJ talks in, like, three episodes. Harry is Venom... what? Aunt May hasn't done anything. The best part about the comics was the characters, and the way they interacted and shit. This show is about Power Man, Iron Fist, White Tiger, Nova, and Spider-Man. I really thought it was going to be about Peter Parker and other young heroes and their lives. It would have been cool if they did it like when Johnny, Bobby, Kitty, and Gwen were all living in the house, and that was the show. That would have been beyond awesome. But... ughhhhhh... I feel like I want to cry.

So I decided to rewatch all of the episodes as we wait for more and while I only got to the sixth episode I have to say, the series is a LOT more impressive then I previously thought. The writing is full of charm and wit, the animation is top-notch, the vice acting is almost perfect, and there is character progression. Marvel seems to have a long term plan in mind and to see it slowly come together is actually really cool. This is a worthy successor to The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Common Sense Media gives the show 4/5

A.V. Club has mainly positive reviews and shows that as the show progresses it is getting better.

Cherrypicking reviews doesn't make your position any more or less valid. So long as we're using such flawed reasoning, I could also point out that IMDB gave Ultimate Spider-Man a 6.4 out of 10. For comparison sake, it gave Spectacular Spider-Man a 7.9. And these reviews are from users, not critics. For more comparison, Wolverine and the X-men scored an 8.1 and Avengers EMH scored an 8.6.

IMDB is based off of non-professional reviewers, ever look at stuff on Rotten Tomatoes? Yikes. Also I wasn't meaning to be cherry-picking, these were the only ones I could find that had one then one or two episode reviews XD

    DISNEY XD'S #1 ANIMATED SERIES ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
SWINGS TO A SECOND SEASON ON MARVEL UNIVERSE PROGRAMMING BLOCK

A second season of Marvel's #1 animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, the launch series of the Marvel Universe programming block, has been ordered by Disney XD, it was announced today by David Levine, Vice President and General Manager, Disney XD Worldwide. The debut series from Marvel Television premiered in April 2012 and to date, has more than doubled its delivery in Total Viewers, Boys 6-14, Boys 6-11 and Boys 2-11. Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man follows the action packed adventures of New York's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who joins S.H.I.E.L.D.'s exclusive training program alongside four other teens to learn what it takes to become the ultimate Super Heroes.

The TV series' success extends to online as well where Ultimate Spider-Man games have held the #1 spot since their launch on DisneyXD.com. The "Iron Spider" game reached #1 in its first week (March 18) and stayed there for five straight weeks until "Cyber-Sabotage" launched on April 19, taking over the #1 spot for the next four weeks.

In making the announcement, Levine said, "The Disney XD audience has connected with Spider-Man and his super-powered friends as they face challenges in school and with their S.H.I.E.L.D. training. As the anchor of our Marvel Universe block, Ultimate Spider-Man season two will be back with more humor, villains and adventurous storylines that boys (and girls) will love."

"We are very excited about the return of Ultimate Spider-Man inside the Marvel Universe on Disney XD," said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television. "With season two, the series introduces popular Marvel heroes and villains you've never seen before on the small screen. With more action, more excitement, more humor, this is the ultimate Spider-Man for fans of all ages."

The acclaimed creative forces behind Ultimate Spider-Man come back for a second season. Man of Action return to the series as Co-Executive Producers alongside Creative Consultant Paul Dini. Fans can expect even more scripts from fan favorite Consulting Producer Brian Michael Bendis, who has written every issue of the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man since its best selling launch in 1999.

The second season of Ultimate Spider-Man has Spidey teaming up with some of the biggest heroes in the Marvel Universe, the Avengers – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk. While the stakes get higher, the villains become more menacing as the young heroes encounter classic Spider-Man villains such as the Lizard and other familiar faces. Fans will discover the secret origins of their favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. trainees, with more revealed about Nova, Iron Fist, Power Man and White Tiger.

The award-winning creative team consists of executive producers: Alan Fine (The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor), Dan Buckley (The Avengers, Iron Man), Joe Quesada (Marvel's Chief Creative Officer) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Head of Television) (Lost, Heroes); co-executive producers: Stan Lee (Spider-Man), Eric Radomski (Batman Animated, Spawn), Man of Action (creators of Ben 10 and Generator Rex) Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle, Dana Booton (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes) and Cort Lane (The Super Hero Squad Show); creative consultant: Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Lost); and consulting producer: Brian Michael Bendis (visionary behind Marvel's Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series).

    Versus year-ago time period averages, Ultimate Spider-Man has more than doubled delivery in Total Viewers (+138% - 827,000 vs. 347,000), Boys 6-14 (+135% - 249,000 vs. 106,000), Boys 6-11 (131% - 187,000 vs. 81,000) and Boys 2-11 (+151% - 248,000 vs. 99,000), with solid double-digit percent gains in all other kid demos (+87% to +93%).*

Ultimate Spider-Man stars Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chi McBride (Boston Public) as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers) as Agent Coulson, JK Simmons (Spider-Man) as J. Jonah Jameson, Steven Weber (Wings) as Norman Osborn, Greg Cipes (Teen Titans, Ben 10) as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, Ogie Banks as Luke Cage/Power Man, Caitlyn Taylor Love (I'm In The Band) as Ava Ayala/White Tiger, Logan Miller (I'm In The Band) as Sam Alexander/Nova, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Doctor Octopus, Matt Lanter (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Harry Osborn/Flash Thompson, Tara Strong (The Fairly Odd Parents) as Mary-Jane Watson, Misty Lee (Batman: Arkham City) as Aunt May, and recurring guest star Stan Lee (Spider-Man) as Stan the Janitor.

New episodes of Ultimate Spider-Man air Sundays at 11:00 a.m., ET/PT on Marvel Universe on Disney XD. The series is produced by Marvel Animation and carries a TV-Y7-FV parental guideline.

Their No.1 show? Maybe next year, unless Avengers Assemble manages to still gather better ratings than USM
