Default best comic book reference in song

alot of people have referenced comic books. ozzy had iron man. ghostface had ironman too. one rapper had a track named secret wars. i always thought rob zombie had the best horror references but I cannot seem to find one for comic books. im sure alice cooper had some good stuff. my personal favorite:

"Dont cut down those trees ya dont need the timber, not a hamato yoshi and not a fucking splinter"

Yeah, that's a great one. From roughly the same era, there's a Vietnam War protest song by Country Joe & The Fish called "An Untitled Protest" that features the magnifcent couplet...

"Superheroes fill the skies, tally sheets in hand,
Yes, keeping score in times of war takes a superman.
    "

In addition, Spider-Man, Kryptonite and The Fantastic Four are also featured in Country Joe & The Fish's song "Superbird".

I've also always had a soft spot for the Wings' song "Magneto and Titanium Man" (which also mentions the Crimson Dynamo in its lyrics). The basic storyline of the song is that the three supervillains mentioned tell Macca that his lady friend, who it turns out "is the law", is planning to rob a bank but it turns out that they are lying.

Yeah....Paul McCartney was smoking a lot of pot at this point.

Well, it should be mentioned that Black Sabbath's Iron Man is not about any comic book Iron Man.

My favourite will always be Paul McCartney & Wings' "Magneto and Titanium Man." It combines two of my favourite superhero things: Magneto and Russian characters. Pity there wasn't a Darkstar mention, but she wasn't around yet.

    "And the Crimson Dynamo
    Came along for the ride."

"Magneto said now the time come
To gather our forces and run!!!
    Oh no . . . . . .
    This cant be so . . . . . .

And then it occurred to me!

    You couldnt be bad
    Magneto was mad!
    Titanium too!
    And the Crimson Dynamo
Just couldnt cut it no more
    You were the law..."

And evidently, reading lots of comics as well.

In A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, during the hotel room scene when Macca is playing piano, I believe comics could be seen on the piano.

And of course, John Lennon included Captain Marvel in the lyrics of "Bungalow Bill" on THE WHITE ALBUM (but was Lennon referring to the Fawcett Captain Marvel, or the then-new Mar-vell version?).

and that leads into this week's comicbooks legends reveals on"Macartneys meet Kirby" http://goodcomics.comicbookresources...-revealed-316/

My Favourite is not so much a reference, but a whole song about comicbook character. Jimmy Olsen's blues by the spin doctors

He's faster than a bullet, stronger than a train
He's the one who got lucky, got his cape around miss Lois Lane
I can't believe my dilemma is real

OH, OK...I didn't know that. I'll have to look out for them the next time I watch that movie.

No, it was undoubtedly the Fawcett Captain Marvel (as in Shazam) that Lennon was referencing. He would've probably read black and white reprints of Captain Marvel stories as a child in the 1950s.

"The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill" was written in the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's compound in Rishikesh, India, sometime between mid-February and mid-April 1968. Captain Mar-Vell's first appearance was in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 which was published in December 1967. He then reappeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 in January 1968 but those two obscure and poor selling appearances were the only times he appeared before the song "Bungalow Bill" was written.

Although it is technically possible that Lennon could've heard of Mar-Vell, it's pretty unlikely that The Beatles would've been referencing a brand new character that had only appeared twice (in the U.S.), in one of the less popular Marvel comics. It's also worth mentioning that none of The Beatles had visited American since early 1967 (before Mar-Vell's first appearance) and none of them returned to the States until May 1968 (after "Bungalow Bill" was written). In addition, it's written as Captain Marvel, not Mar-Vell, on the lyric sheet that was included with The White Album.

So, all things considered, it's got to be the Fawcett Captain Marvel.

Clark Kent & Lois Lane in AC/DC's excellent What's Next to the Moon.

Monster Magnet managed some beauties between MODOK and Ego the Living Planet.

Weezer's In The Garage nails dopey sentimentality via Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde.

Barbarella's a Wonder Woman according to those who know. And her themesong.

the shazam lennon reference is an amazing story. comic book history and how it has affected other mediums is astounding.

i think solja boy's supaman dat h$% was an intellectual travesty as far as comic book references in the mainstream. the obscenity did not bother me as much as it was so uneducated and seemed to promote lack of brain activity.

i feel like paul simon made a superman reference in one of his songs but I cant find it anywhere.

the teen titans song by hihi puffy ami yumi is awesome even if it is silly j-pop for 13 year old girls. I wont deny i have it in my itunes.

i always wanted to hear a metal band scream SOLOMON GRUNDY BORN ON A MONDAY SOLOMON GRUNDY BORN ON A MONDAY.

I would feel sorry for the lady who'd have to be expecting this child:

Sign O the TIMES, mess with your mind, hurry before it's 2 late
Let's fall in love, get married, have a baby
We'll call him NATE... (if it's a boy)

I'm not sure about comic book references in a song. But I'm a big MF Doom fan, both of his music and comics. He's great. I only wish there was a comic book character that played some sort of instrument. Like a Steinway Model D or something. Then perhaps I could reference the line "throw some D's on em!"
