Superrman's origins

Aside from lawsuits and reboot news, i kinda think this is a nice oppertunity to talk about something else.

I was watching the superman animated series and i realized, i may not be the biggest superman fan but his origin story is the only origin that gets an emotional response from me.

unlike batman (who is my favorite charecter)his origin, is very i dont know, heart warming to me His parents sent him off into the unknown not for a malicious reason but because they loved him. and that kindly farm couple took him out of love.

I find the contrast between him and batman to be one of my favorite things in comic books summed up by a like in here after of JLU

"you taught me that justice doesent have to come from the darkness"

So yea i think supermans beats out batmans in terms of getting an emotional response from people

what do you guys think on the subject?

Even when I was a little kid and the Batman TV show was on, I liked Superman a little more. I remember playing "Hulk vs. Superman" with my older brother. I always thought I was lucky because my hero had a cape! So, I guess Superman made an impression on me early. And it brings an emotional response, sometimes because of all these memories I have....

There are three origins that I really like a lot: The first issue of Action comics origin, Superman: Man of Steel by John Byrne and Superman: The Animated Series. The last two stick to the fundamental things that I like about Superman. The Action comics origin has to be regarded with some respect since it was the character as concieved by its creators.

There have been some really good Elseworld's stories that I thought were good, but I am not sure the creators of those ever intended them to be more than a short series or one shot.

Man, speaking of the animated series, they did the origin perfectly. Having the entire first half hour focus on Jor-El was really great, because you feel the full weight of the tragedy of Krypton's destruction. And on top of that, it made the fact that Jor-El only had one tiny rocket make sense - the plan was to put the Kryptonian population in the Phantom Zone, then have a single man rocket off to a safe world and release them. And Brainiac's intervention shows that the Science Council didn't ignore Jor-El out of ignorance or arrogance - they are called the Science Council, after all - but because their top supercomputer had an ulterior motive. Very cool idea, and it made Brainiac a more interesting villain than the comics version, not to diss the Coluan Brainiac too much since he's still great but Kryptonian computer Brainiac is the best.

That and the succinct one-page origin in All-Star Superman are my favorite renditions. The first provides details that enhance the effect of the origin, while the second distills the origin to its most mythic and resonant components.

i think my favorite in terms of emotion is a tie between the animated series and the reeves superman movies
well specifically the jor-el father son speech

Superman has one of the simplest and most beautiful origin stories in comics. It perfectly sets the foundations for the whole character, and creates a big emotional connection with the reader.
Some iterations are better than others, but mostly I have enjoyed all of them.
I loved "Superman For all seasons", as much as "Birthright", and the one from "Superman The Animated Series". Those three are my favorite versions.

Yes, I like Superman better than Batman too... despite the rhetoric, "guy with glasses from a small town who works as a white-collar office job and is a hero for altruistic reasons" I "relate" to way more than "millionaire playboy by day who works as a grim vigilante at night". Maybe since *I'm* a glasses-wearing guy who grew up in a small midwestern town who works at an office job... :p

Favorite origin? The one recounted in the 70s (Bronze Age) comics, probably since that's my favorite version of Superman... though I did like the Superman:TAS version as well.
