The only good games on this list are Arkham Asylum and Lego Batman all the rest are terrible.
Hobos frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread.

The problem is those were the only two good batman games at all up to this point and a top two list just doesn't make for a good article.

The Nes Batman is actually incredibly good, Ninja Gaiden 2 level good.
As was Adventures, which played and looked amazing.
There were no post SNES era good batman games until arkham asylum, but before that, good games did come out.

Yes, I'll agree the NES one is really good.

The Genesis one was pretty awesome as well. As was the arcade. Really, this whole article seems limited in scope. It doesn't even bring up stuff like the Sega CD game -- ok, questionable in terms of quality, but it had an entire original BTAS episode in it.

And, of course, Revenge of Shinobi.

What? Batman Returns was GREAT! I still enjoyed that going back to it years later. The music especially was a highlight for me.

I liked the one with a dog the most, nostalgia reasons.
    Shadow Dancer?

Shadow Dancer was also a pretty strong side-scroller. To which I mean it's better than just for nostalgia. It was also a bit more pure action than Revenge, which wasn't as fast paced, a bit more complicated, but less arcadey.

So, we get multiple playable characters now. Could be sweet.

'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

    EDIT: Nevermind.

I kinda preferred Vengeance over Sin Tzu, though.

I actually liked the NES Batman. You have to remember that, when it first came out, most comic book games sucked HARD. Just go back to the old Questprobe Marvel games for the PC. Laughably bad at best. Even Batman's contemporaries like LJN's Uncanny X-Men game for the NES was painful. Batman for the NES isn't anything special by today's standards, but it certainly gets bonus points for actually trying to be better than the games that came before it.

As a product of its time, Batman for the NES was spectacular. Compared to more modern superhero games, it's a little underwhelming. Then again, the same charge could be levied against Activision's original Spider-Man for the PS1. A huge game changer for when it came out, but better Spider-Man games have come along since.

There's one Batman game that deserves more credit than it has ever gotten though. Batman Vengeance for the GameCube is much more fun than most reviews let on. The camera is flawed to be sure and the level of detail pales compared to what Sony was offering on its console at the time. Having said that, you actually do get the feeling that you're playing in the Batman TAS world. The voice acting is spectacular and some of the boss battles are quite clever. Fighting the Joker has never been more fun. IMO, Batman Vengeance was just a few months of tweaking away from actual greatness. Had it not felt so rushed in places, it would have been far more appreciated. As-is, it stands as a wonderful diamond in the rough.

I have to agree with some of the posters here in that the early NES, SNES and even Genesis games were both fun and good for their time. I still enjoy playing Batman: TAS on both SNES and Genesis. (Though I will admit the Genesis version is a bit more of a guilty pleasure being basically a pure action shooter.)
