Both of them would be devastated over her death, demanding that justice be done, especially considering Jonah is now the mayor of New York, combined with the unshakable feeling of guilt they may have failed her as parents. Not to mention Peter has the guilt of another death on his hands, not just of a kid, but of someone who became a Spider-Woman because she was his fan. That gives him a double dose of guilt. But no, Mattie instantly became an after thought even in the story in which she died. Plus, didn't Phil Urich have a thing for her, too? Hey, more fuel for his insanity, right there.
In all I blame the rotating writers and all. I think they dropped a ball with Mattie's death and the reaction it should have had. But they were rotating writers at this point and they couldn't do it.

Kinda sad that her own uncle and adopted father really doesn't even seem to remember her.

Evil didn't win because the same four-part story in which Mattie Franklin was killed ended with the heroes achieving a balance and the bad guys doing worse than before.

i have a question will we ever see the return of Mattie Franklin. Kraven and Kaine have both returned from the grave in which it is not balanced. why not Mattie, she should not have died like that in the first place. anyways i would like would we see her "return" in the near future. I mean she can act as the spiderwoman's mentor. The thing that intrigues me is that even after all this time J.Jonah Jameson does not know that mattie is gone which i think is strange.

I believe comic book readers think about "evil" too much.

And that's coming from a metal fan.

Evil never wins because its inherent nature is self-defeating.

I like my comics with heroes dying, not always having a noble death, and not always good guys winning.

Don't listen to David. You're my new favorite.

Bad things sometimes happen to good people.

Also, evil triumphs more often than not in the real world. It's nice to read a comic where heroes die in vain and evil coming out on top.

I don't think evil triumphs more often than not in the 'real' world. But even if I did buy into that philosophy, I tend to think that fiction is about the world we can create, not necessarily the one we've got. So I don't see the need to overwhelm readers with death and destruction at every corner.

I think the Marvel Universe is a place where bad things often happen to good people, but heroism tends to prevail. You look at say, Flash Thompson or Matt Murdock, and they've lived hellish lives. But I also feel pretty inspired by their persistence in the face of overwhelming odds. When you're Flash Thompson, getting out of bad and taking another shot at it is a triumph over evil!
