Dark Beast doesn't look like a high school mascot, because Sage didn't feel the need to troll him in the Age of Apocalypse universe--she didn't jump-start his inherent lameness. Also, I'm going to propose the probability that Dark Beast isolated said inherent lameness and had it destroyed with technology.

I think it's also because he's inherently smarter than 616 Beast who's experimentation was obviously flawed in some way resulting in him having cat physiology in his genes for Sage to target.

Beast could've had the idea that if he introduced feline properties (through a needle, microwave oven--whatever), he could enhanced his eye sight and not have to rely on eye-glasses. Surprise! Stupid idea, Beast.
