Eh, not mine. IMO, P and G set PG back with their all-out jokey cheesecake portrayal of her. I didn't mind it in small doses, but it was their entire run. All the truly interesting stuff they said before the series started that they had in mind for her never appeared, leaving PG as a one-note character in their run.

Biggest problem---they did nothing with PG that truly mattered to the DCU. I'll also note that with the previous post, another PG thread milestone was reached---1500 posts!

That picture though was nice--the artist captures PG in a lighter moment well. I could go with a PG manga series, as long as it was classic PG, and done in not just a jokey style. Some serious stories are kinda needed to balance things out.

Which brings up one of PG's biggest problems over the years---she just never does anything big. To quote Rick Flair, "in order to be the man, you gotta beat the man". PG just never fights and wins against any big time villains in the DCU, and never does the big time feats. They go to Superman and Supergirl---PG is the poor step-sister of the Superman Family---barely ever even acknowledged to be part of it. That needs to change if she's ever to emerge from C or B-list hell.

Well I'm just addressing that picture. The manga style fits with Terra and Peej going out to Starbucks and fighting wacky space aliens.

I like Power Girl in stories with gravitas as well, but if you take her too seriously, I think you kinda miss the point of her IMO.

True, but the reverse is true as well. She's one of those characters who can work well in a funny story or a serious one. Though her point as it was originally presented, was much more serious, for what that's worth. I think it was Giffen/Dematteis who introduced the funny side of PG, a bit over a decade later.

Come to think of it, I've even seen Batman work well in funny stories, and J'ohn too. And Booster work well in serious stories.

Me, I'd like a balance. Do the funny, light stuff. But also do serious stuff. Which is where the big stories that make most characters tend to come from. Which PG desperately needs.

I happen to think that pic looks pretty f-ing sick (the one that looks like it was done by a manga artist) is there anymore?

The artist, Eroquis/Butcha-U, has done more Power Girl pics but most of them are erotic.

I don't understand this. She wasn't created as a semi-comic character and for most of her history wasn't considered as such.

Timm drawing a beautiful female character is always a work of art, IMO.

I like srs-bizness PG don't get me wrong, but I find much of her modern appeal is because she is a fun character.

Yeah Powergirl is way more interesting as a quesi funny character, with occasional boughts of seriousness. In fact she was kind of bland until they went the more light hearted route with her.

Apologies if this was shown on here before, but I just noticed it--kinda cool redesign of Peej's classic costume:

Here's the artist's deviantArt, if curious.

I don't think it's been posted before. It's new to me at least. And kind of nice.

True enough. It was only during the Giffen/Dematteis League books and her own series, especially the 12 issue Palmiotti/Gray run where she was overtly comical. Her original run in the Bronze Age in All-Star Comics and the modern JSA runs were all serious.

And to my mind one of her best stories---even though it was more a Mr. Terrific story---JSA vs Kobra featured a dead serious PG.

dunno why DC didn't do a breast cancer awareness cover with PG, she practically screams it out
