Can someone please explain to me why JMS left Thor shortly after # 600?

Fourth answer, second sentence, shouldn't that be a "a lot of folks gave us both" instead of "have"?

If memory serves, a big reason was Siege was imminent and JMS didn't want to work around it.

Never knew both Gaiman and Millar were offered to write the Thor monthly title before they gave it to JMS

I'm still left wondering what JMS was building up to.

He seemed to have a major Siege'like end game with Loki, Doom, the Asgardians, and Namor and perhaps even Odin but it all just fizzled out and didn't even end on a strong note. It read exactly like JMS just gave up and tried to hastily wrap up his run before Siege came.

Because he didn't want to take part in a bigger universe.

And "Siege" sucked. I would have preferred seeing what JMS was building towards. His run on "Thor" was my favorite comic of the last decade.

Has he EVER finished a comic run cleanly?

All I know is, this would sound a lot more creative

One of the most important lessons any writer can learn is to take something and turn it upside down just to see how it looks. The obvious choice is to put Thor into something cosmic, which is why it’s been done so much. So what does that look like if we turn it upside down? You put him on Earth, in a setting as far from cosmic as you can get without sliding into an alternate universe.
if he hadn't turned around and done basically the same thing with Superman & Wonder Woman. At least he finished tho-

    Oh, wait....

It had absolutely nothing to do with an event that screws up the story he was working on?

"brought the gods of Asgard to earth where their kingdom was reconstituted in the skies above Broxton, Oklahoma." Still not a big fan of that. I haven't been reading so maybe this has been reconciled, but how does Asgard interact with the other nine realms if it is physically on one of them? And while I see his point, I don't think Don Blake was really necessary anymore. Not so much that the character couldn't be written well, but that Thor no longer needed a Don Blake persona to change into. Friends on Midgard could fill that need-to-be-grounded role.

Gaiman would have been great on Thor.

Wasn't a fan of JMS on it. Honestly, would have preferred Gillen from the get-go.

He finished Thor. Maybe not the way he wanted, but he did.

It's hard for me to give much attention to JMS, given his recent track record at DC in particular, but I thought his run on Thor in general was really good stuff, and enjoyed the movie as well.
