Good read mostly , i understand his stance on introducing new readers to comics but i think starting titles from 1 (talking about the ultimate comics) as much as they are doing at the moment does get a little wearing . I dont know if Thor's even out here yet but i might go out of my way to see it , im sure ill enjoy it even though im not a thor fan. Tom always gives indepth and interesting answers to questions so that's always appreciated .

    This is the process now
    Movie comes out
New #1 involving said character gets announced
Sales of the character eventually even out again
previous numbering gets transfered to said title
    rinse and repeat

As far as Ultimate Marvel goes I stopped reading after Ultimatum Marvel gave me no other choice imo.
If they want to start bringing people back to the line they might as well just do a reboot and forget most of the bad stuff they have been doing lately.

never understood why people get so annoyed by it, most of the time the main story continues through and its easier for new readers to pick up.

anyway, the segment of Blade saddened me a bit.

Brevoort: Let me scroll back, because you said something that's slightly interesting.
Am I the only one who thought this quote was hilarious?

In the penciled preview image of Avengers #14, it looks like Spider-Man is wearing his FF costume. I wonder if there's significance to that?

Marvel gave him an ongoing after his first movie came out IIRC just like they gave all of the characters who had movies out an ongoing.

X-men got relaunched as New X-men
    Blade got an ongoing
    Spider-man got sensational spider-man
    Punisher got another ongoing
    Elektra got an ongoing
    Ghost Rider got an ongoing
    Hulk got a new ongoing

Most of these characters are B or C list and Marvel did something after they got a movie. The only thing was I guess they were a bit late on the hype due to not knowing anything about the production of those movies.

I cant speak for anyone else but me personally i just dont like the creating of new volumes when theres still more then ample room to have a comic going into the hundreds . I understand that seeing a comic with (insert name here) 278 could be offputting but like you said the story normally continues anyway so surely the continuity may put them off anyway?

Also when i started reading The Direct Market comics (American up to date comics as opposed to the British collectors editions which are behind by a year or so) i was only small but wasnt put off by the numbers on the front Of X men or Spider - man . Infact it made me think wow these story's have been around for a long time something must be really interesting about them.

This is all just my opinion but honestly i would love to see how many new readers who may buy a comic based on the new Number 1 actually stay reading . I honestly dont think the Recap pages are that helpfull for new readers and in my opinion if you want to go out of your way to read something you will no matter if its number 1 or number 278 .

But yeah im not really angry or annoyed by it , its just like i said a bit wearing and i wonder if the sales actually back up the point of doing it in the first place? Especially after a few months.

Maybe they do ......i dont know , its all conjecture at the end of the day i guess. x

Anyone know what's happening with Jeph Loeb and Art Adams' Ultimate X? In over a year I think there have only been four issues. I hope that Marvel take this next relaunch more seriously. If these new books are priced at $2.99 I might give some of them a look but $3.99 is a dealbreaker.

It's the promotion, Blade hadn't been featured anywhere and they just threw the ongoing together.

It would be kinda like giving werewolf by night an ongoing, while something like that could work he hasn't been around for so long so he doesn't have the fanbase to support one.

There are 4 main reasons why the Ultimate line of books have lost lots of readers and will most likely never become a huge hit again.

    1. The whole novelty of the Ultimate Universe (which was basically Marvel's version of DC's Silver Age revamp of their characters) has worn off and most fans are no longer curious or fascinated by Marvel's version of Earth 2 (or Earth 1 depending on which universe you like best).

    2. The Ultimate line of books and characters are just too damn dark and depressing. Most (NOT ALL) of the Ultimate characters are too unlikable and are therefore too hard to root for. I mean seriously, who wants to root for horny rapist cannibalistic murdering Hulk or a psycho Bruce Banner who willingly takes a serum that turns him into the Hulk so that the Ultimates can have someone to fight. And don't get me started on a Wolverine who sleeps with under age teenage girls.

    3. The Ultimate writers seem more concern with writing for both the big screen and the small screen, instead of writing for the comic book page.

    4. There are already way too many comics featuring the same 12 over exposed characters, and the very small (and shrinking) comic book readership are starting to overdose on those characters and are therefore deciding to not buy all of those comics featuring those characters.

In its early stages with good writers the Ultimate Universe was great. It was definitely new school compared to how the MU still hasn't hit that stage where its telling contemporary stories.
I think I stopped following Ultimate Spider-man when Doc Ock turned into Magneto lite but besides that all the other Ultimate titles where great. I think at the point when Kirkman started writing Ultimate X-men is when I was just turned off everything as it became about "which character will we Ultimize this week"

Whatever made you think Jean Grey was under-age? I was always under the impression she was 18.

His job was to seduce Jean back then anyway and IIRC all that was said was that he was her first time. No clue how old she was at the beginning of Ultimate X-men
