Default CBR: "Smallville's" A Tale of Two Zods

Before TV's current General Zod Callum Blue commanded Tom Welling's Clark Kent to "Kneel," the producers of "Smallville" had plans for a surprising Doomsday crossover, as actor Sam Witwer tells CBR.

Yeah, he kinda burned that bridge when he inadvertently told them how stupid they were. Don't think they liked that.

It worked out for the best, as Callum Blue ended up being a fantastic Zod and helped create what was one of the best seasons of Smallville.

Witwer was also really good as Davis/Doomsday. The writers did such a good job with that storyline until the end of the season. It's a shame it fell apart so badly with the retcon episode where we found out he crashed to earth alongside Clark (a great idea that wasn't handled well) and the hugely disappointing finale. Aside from the awful Jimmy Olsen plot twist, the much hyped Clark/Doomsday battle was terrible. It's a shame considering they managed to perfectly pull off a live action Doomsday, on a TV show no less, until the end.

On that note, what's with the awful Photoshopped Clark/Doomsday picture in the article? That isn't even Witwer in the suit like the description says. Haha.

They should have hired him to be a creative consultant, because Witwer seems to have more sense than anyone that's been in Smallville's writers' room.

I can't imagine it was the first time they'd heard that.

I will say that this might of worked if they'd decided to keep Doomsday and Davis as separate, in that he had no idea he was a monster or had powers. They could of just had him thinking he was crazy.

Then they could of set it up so that once he gets the beast removed from him with black kryptonite then Zod's spirit or something possesses him. Maybe they could give an excuse that he couldn't possess him until the beast was gone.

I mean, it's not like the whole storyline with how season 9 Zod gets to Earth in the first place was super awesome. Is "oh Jor-El took blood samples with the intention to clone these soldiers but then changed his mind" any crazier then what might of been?

    :) Yeah, for serious.

I have a newfound respect for Witwer.

Too bad they didn't consult him for that season finale....
