I miss the old days. I am a huge fan of VG - F comics. They have always been the best value in collecting IMO.

On a side note, I hate this newfangled numbering system (CGC) which has created a niche for super high grade/high cost slabs. I don't have any slabs yet, and kind of hope I never do. Although I do have a very high grade Silver Surfer #1 (VF+++) way back when I bought it an cgc didn't exist. Since it is so hard to find that squarebound book in high grade it would be stupid of me to sell un-slabbed. Don't plan on selling it though.

Hi AZBarbarian - I am sure there are many collectors/comic fans who would agree with you. As for CGC, that has been a heated (robust!) topic on here over the years I have been here, but I will say, I do understand why people choose and like CGC, it gives them confidence as to the grade of something, and looking around the world and seeing so many people offering comics, grading is something many are not so good at. As for VG comics, I see them often at stores but usually if I buy them its just to use as readers not often to keep before passing them on. Like during the last few months, at one of the stores I visit, they got in tons of Spider-Man. Old stuff, but it was all very damaged, heavy creasing, page tears, spine bending/creases, etc. So I just couldn't bring myself to purchase those. It was the same with a stack of old magazines. Now the magazines are rare, but even so when they have a price written on them and heavy creasing/bending again I just couldnt bring myself to part with my dollars for those. Not when I know if I wait and be patient I will get what I want, at a price I like and be happier for it.

Remember the "Holiday grab bag" ads that we used to find in comics? This is what I sort of got thanks to a sale at Nostalgiazone! (Shipping charges from the US are pretty stiff, but the comics were inexpensive (60 cents-1 dollar) and so I splurged).

Lords of the Ultra-realm #1-6, and special #1
    The 'Nam, #2-6
    Legionnaires #3-6
    Jon Sable, Freelance, 1-2
    Alien Worlds #1
    Elric (Pacific comics) #1, 3-5
    The Atlantis chronicles #1,2
    Strikeforce: morituri #10
    Dreadstar #7, 8
    Aztec Ace #5
    Dakota North #1,2
    Alpha Flight #13
    Beowulf #1

Not a lot of A-listers in there, but plenty of B stuff that I love!

Just bought Amazing Spider-Man annual #10, the first appearance of the Human Fly (no, not the stunt guy). How did J. Jonah Jameson get away with constantly financing the creation of super villains by backstreet geneticists?

Crap like that happens in 'ze' world of comics.

It ran for 323 issues. The book had some great stuff in the 60's/70's. Sadly by the last 20+ issues it became pretty bad. I guess it was a victim of DC's revamping their line Post Crisis.

I imagine a meeting was like this .

Scientist - "I have this experiment to create the ultimate super human."

JJJ- "But can it beat that accursed Spider-Man ?!!"

    Scientist - "....... Yes."

JJJ- "Here is a check ...write any amount to beat him."

In case I haven't said it before, I love this thread. So many cool comics, and so many people who share this great hobby with me.

I picked these up about a month ago. (I know, I'm slacking...)

Here are the latest two comics to my ASM collection:

I picked the Annual #11 off of the CGC boards as a raw comic. It's a solid 9.2/9.4 -- and it's John Romita Jr.'s first time drawing Spidey. He's more of a Jack Kirby clone, which is interesting, considering who his dad is.

The second issue is 115. This was a CGC comic (9.0) which is now liberated and enjoying the pampered life in a mylar bag.

I only need 18 more issues of ASM for a full run. (And rumor has it that my wonderful wife has gotten me 2 Spideys for Christmas. Pictures to follow, if that's true... in a couple of days or so...)

I also still need 5 annuals.

    That's it for now,
    Tom
My Favorites: Daredevil, Hawkeye, Superior Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man

    Almost Done Collecting ASM: Need issues 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 18, 28, and 29
