Scott, you gotta get some form of collection software up and running. It's a drop in the bucket to what you're already spending. Just something to think about. Think of it this way - I know its money you could be spending on comics, but when you use it you are still playing and having fun with your comics. I'm a comicbase guy, but other posters have other ways. I can't remember but 1 guy had a free on-line tool he was using.

Yeah, I may get something like that. I fiddled around with a free online version a couple years ago, but since it was asking for grades, I had to really look everything over and it took me like two hours just to enter Avengers #1-100. So I gave up because it seemed like it would take me the rest of my life to try and grade and enter thousands of comics. But it might be worth another look at this point now that my collection is getting a bit larger.

Now that's sweet. Really nice! I love the huge Comics Code stamp on those early silver books. Heck, some would argue that this is the FIRST silver age book...

Guy I bought the Daredevil books from had some other stuff. He had close to 500 comics that he wanted just $100 for but a lot of it was early 90's stuff that did not really interest me. However, he did let me go through and pick out some Batman stuff, including a very nice Detective ish as seen in the photo. Not kidding, it is a solid 9.0 or better. All of this cost just $25.

pinkfloydsound17 - nice. its amazing in some ways that many of us can now find comic books so cheap but like anything there are many factors as to why this is the case. i think partly its because so many people are just so desperate for cash. i see and hear it a lot at the bookstores. some people come in literally begging the people the behind the counter to buy all their things, and usually they have a set price in mind and its horrible when you see their face collapse in shock at the realization that all that money they thought they were going to get just isn't going to happen. its like that huge comic collection i recently had the option to purchase (but passed on). i honestly don't see things turning around any time soon because the world is facing huge hurdles at a financial level and as bills soar, i just see more people being plunged into debt and selling off their collections (also because of space reason).

It is true...people who dont know look stuff up and see stuff on comicspriceguide or even ebay buy it now auctions and automatically think that is what their stuff is worth. This guy seemed like he used to collect but now he doesnt really have any interest. He kept the stuff in great shape though and said he was very happy to pass it on to someone who would love it. And I am more than happy to have it

4 of my recent Batman additions, all in the region VF/VF+, which is great for 40 year old books. I might have mentioned I'm trying to complete 201-300. Still have to unpack some other books which are in a luggage bag....

Very nice. Batman seems like a particularly tough series to get in grade (for superhero stuff, anyway) because so darn many of the covers are black.

I don't think dark covers are harder to grade than others. But like anything I do the same for them as I do for any type of thing for grading, have great lighting above me so I can see everything clearly, also hold the comic at different angles so if I am grading I can note any and all defects (it could be slight loss of gloss, maybe some tiny breaks on the spine, etc). One of the things I have learned about photography in recent years is that its a biased form of capturing something because the object in the photograph can appear in a multitude of ways depending on lens, lighting, etc. BTW nice comics Jez!

What I meant was, they are harder to find in high grade because black covers show up every tiny defect. They also pick up fingerprints and smudges that other covers don't.

Good point. I find alot of the newer comics a pain sometimes because they tend to accumulate finger prints which can be more noticeable than on older comic books. Of course its not a problem if everybody washes their hands regularly but a lot of people don't do that. Sometimes I will be at a comic store and I will literally have to go through most of the copies for a particular issue before I find one which doesn't have fingerprints all over it.
