I can't say I bought these -- nor are they classic comics -- but I just ended up with the New 52 Flash #1-7, all signed by writer/artist Francis Manapul. A friend of mine ran a booth at the Boston Comic-Con last weekend and after the show he found someone had left the whole run in his booth. He couldn't find whoever did it, so he ended up giving them to me. I'm not sure if they're worth the time to read, but I guess we'll find out. It's hard to turn down free comics, after all.

Amazing Spider-Man #7...probably a 5.0 or VG/FINE...usually I'd bitch and moan but since it's a single-digit issue, I'll keep it as a reading copy til a VF comes along. Still have to bag and board this one so for the moment, I just put it on a textbook. Note, although it's the UK variant with the 9d cover, it's still very much an authentic #7 from 1963...one of my parent's birthday issue

Lately I've been getting nostalgic and been collecting for cheap the Superman comics from late 80's to when John Byrne left the series leading to the Death Of Superman simply because the stories were interesting.

I stopped by the local flea market today and bought 5 comics for a buck:

Doom Patrol #42 - The origin of Flex Mentallo
Hot Stuf' #8 - Neal Adams cover
Jack Kirby's Secret City Saga #1 - by the team of Roy Thomas and Steve Ditko
Satan's Six #1 - More Kirby weirdness with a truly bizarre line-up of creators. How bizarre? The cover is Kirby inked by Todd McFarlane.
Visionaries #1 - A really bizarre adaptation of some action figure line about knights who fight using Tv screens on the end of giant poles. Published under the Star Comics imprint.

    Not bad for .20 each.

Here are the sum total of my back issue purchases in March & April:

This means I need 28 more issues of ASM. The #142 (a 9.0, methinks) is the last of the 140's that I need. The #125 (also a 9.0, imho) is the last of the 120's that I need.

    I do, however, need #134, 135, and 136.

    Take care,
    Tom

I have been watching this thread, and I love seeing what you guys buy. (Sorry my pics are so huge...)
My Favorites: Daredevil, Hawkeye, Superior Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man

    Almost Done Collecting ASM: Need issues 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 18, 28, and 29

Yesterday I swung by a Flea Market and scored some nice books for $1 buck and a NM book that was a bit more pricey at $20. Altogether the dude charged me $30 bucks for my haul . Which averaged $3 bucks an issue.

    Richard Dragon , Kung-Fu Fighter #6

    Kamandi #20 & #30

    Marvel Team-Up #73

    Marvel Team-Up Annual #5

    Action Comics #800

    Conan the Barbarian #164

    What If ? (Vol.1) #6-#8

    Adventure Comics #458

And this one was the pricey issue...

    X-Men 111

Now these issues I had a buddy order from Milehigh Comics and he got me these ...

Challengers of the Unknown #87 (Final Issue)

Action Comics 421 (1st appearance of Captain Strong)

    Action Comics 566

I had traded him these issues weeks ago and once I saw Milehigh had them , I ordered quick. 566 is out yet again right after my order lol.

Pretty light weekend for me. Went to Half-Price Books and grabbed some Fantastic Four issues from the early 500's (I recently decided to close the gap in my collection from 500 to 570 so as to have a continuous run from 100 through 600) for $1 each, and I also managed to find a Thor Annual #9 for $1 (I've managed to pick up some of the single-digit Thor Annuals for $1 lately, and there are some really good stories in there).

The same store apparently had just bought a collection of Daredevil from issue 135 through about 300 (minus the Miller issues, of course). I already have that run, but someone else is going to be able to fill holes in their collection for no more than $2 each, which isn't too shabby.
"I don't hate everybody. I think I'm better than everybody. It's completely different."

    Currently Hunting:
Captain America # 117 (last one for the entire run)

Half-price sale all weekend at the LCS I occasionally visit, so I came home with dozens of recent back issues. The New 52 stuff doesn't much interest me, but awhile back I picked up the new Wonder Woman #s 1-5 for cheapish off eBay (entirely for Cliff Chiang's art), so I picked up a couple more of those. And of course various issues of the new Legion & of Legion: Secret Origin (no issues of the new Legion Lost were to be found), because they're the Legion, in whatever incarnation. And the first several Birds of Preys. As for Marvel -- the one Daredevil I could find with Marcos Martin art, the first 4 issues of a mini I don't believe I'd ever heard of called Avengers 1959 (I'm a complete sucker for pre-1960s superhero & "mystery men" conceits; see also recent purchases via online vendors of Marvel's Mystery Men & All Winners Squad: Band of Heroes), & undoubtedly a few others that aren't coming to mind.

They had an identical sale last year (except that TPBs were half-off, too, then; this time, it was buy-2-get-1 & buy-5-get-5, so cheapskate me got zero), but over the intervening year they seem to have winnowed their independents shelves considerably. Mostly big-name stuff was all that was left, which I'm sure is a reflection of the market. (Other than a handful of Hack/Slashes & Angel & Faiths, I pretty much struck out on that end of the spectrum.) Or maybe, since I didn't drop in till around 5:30 p.m., all that stuff had already sold, just as all the FCBD comics were long gone ... but I sort of doubt it.

I have no interest in the Avengers flick, of course, but the fact that the shop in question is located across the street from the biggest theatre in town no doubt helped traffic immensely. (Judging from the queries of kids & their parents coming in, Hawkeye & Black Widow made a especially big impression on moviegoers who wouldn't know a comic from a kumquat.) It probably helped the other LCS, just a few storefronts away from said theatre, even more, but as noted previously I don't go there.

I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."

The Avengers: 1959 mini was good, so look for the 5th and final issue. It kind of follows up an arc in either Avengers or New Avengers that took place 1/2 in the present and 1/2 in the past. Chaykin did all the art on the past parts of the stories as well as the art in the mini you got. Found it, New Avengers v. 2 #2:

If you like that kind of stuff, did you like AGENTS OF ATLAS? I loved it!!!

Great minds shrink alike! Easily one (actually, more than one, plus the handful of one-shots & minis like Gorilla Man & Uranian) of my favorite comics of the last several years.
