I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."

Locas, the big hardcover version that clocks in at around 700 pages. It was just there at the bookstore, squeezed between other American tpb's and hardcovers, a neglected treasure.
Jaime Hernandez is just plain extraordinary. This is one book I won't regret getting (unlike some superheroic "event" books I could name).

I'd post a picture of my cat (Chau Chau) but I've never bothered to figure out how to post pics on this site...
I went to the Bedrock City 50% off back issue sale here in Houston and came away with the following which came to about $80 ($20 under my budget). I wanted to get some Silver Age Books in VF or higher but couldn't find any.
I also wanted to note how it is getting increasingly harder to find any issues of the Avengers up until about 160ish.
Avengers 171-174
Avengers Annual 8 (an nifty looking Perez issue and my most expensive buy at $6)
Defenders 42-43
King Conan 11-14
Moon Knight 1-4 (the early Sienkiewicz Neal Adams ripoffs)
New Mutants (1, 37 and Annual 1)
New Teen Titans (5, 10 and 5, deluxe series)
Secret Origins (1, 4, 7, I always liked this series and want to finish my run)
Spectre (Ostrander) 2, 5-7, 9
Young All-Stars 13
Nothing exciting but I put a dent in some runs and they are all in NM with white pages!

For those with a long simmering curiosity about the rare and dusky world of 1950's romance comics, it might be worth your while and money to pick up the new release from Harper Publishing, Agonizing Love, The Golden Era of Romance Comics.
It hit better stocked comic shops this week, and does indeed offer an uncommon glimpse into the bizarre, hilarious, horrifying and lovely bits that once described a long passed world of the comic arts.
Many full stories are included and best yet, are all scanned from the original pages.
Alas, the eternal curse and weakness of all romance comics has not been lifted... script and art credits for these lost and lovely stories remains the great unknown. Though rest assured, the knowing eye can spot the masterful pencil of Mat Baker on an occasion or two.
It's under $30.00, is well done, and worth it to those interested in this sort of thing.
(PS: While I paid 30.00... Amazon has it discounted by more than half!)
Anyone else ever bust a f**king fingernail trying to open a Mile High Comics package?![]()

And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.
The Immortal Dr. Fate #1-3 (reprinting Silver Age material)
The Spectre (1992 series) #11
The Grim Ghost #1 -- after looking for this for a few years, I found THREE copies of it for around $3 at today's comics and cards show. I also found a copy of issue #3, but didn't purchase it because there was no #2 to be found; there was also a fellow buying a big stack of Atlas Seabord comics, so maybe he snagged #2 while I wasn't looking.
These comics shows are fun, but frustrating for a few reasons. For one, there's always a large number of people who take up an excessive amount of space, making it hard for me to browse. Sometimes it's their sheer bulk, sometimes they position themselves such that they block off four long boxes at once, sometimes they have their want lists in binders that they spread out across the top of multiple boxes... Grr.
Then there are the dealers who don't alphabetize their comics. This is mostly with the dollar bins, where I guess they figure it wouldn't be worth the investment of time -- I've noticed these dealers are usually selling other bric-a-brac, like old video games or action figures, and often their comics are in pretty rough shape. Generally speaking, I'll only glance cursorily at these collections.
If I wasn't back on a student budget, I'd probably have come home with quite a bit more -- one of the dealers was offering 60% off all of their back issues, which made a lot of comics look much more enticing than they would otherwise have been. :) But I'd promised myself I wouldn't spend more than the $12 I had in my wallet, and I managed to keep that promise.

I've only been to a MH store, so no. I just can't stand their website enough to buy from them. Lord knows I don't need any MORE places to spend my $$$. ;)
fairs/shows can be brutal. last time i went to one i got pushed and shoved around and i didn't like it one bit. i thought to myself gee, i like comics and all that but i am not willing to get bruised up for the process. i much prefer the quiet sanctuary of the used and secondhand bookstores were i can sit down on an old wooden chair or stool and just take my time.
I recently picked up a nm copy of x-men 104 (uncanny) and a damn-near-mint copy of x-men 98(also uncanny).
Not sure how they have survived in such good shape for so many years, but I'm not complaining.
